I sent a bunch of holiday cards to people within 50 miles of me, mailed on December 17th. I just heard from one of the recipients that her card arrived TODAY.

(7,473 posts)It took 22 days for my Master Card payment to go from my post office(Mass. mail box) to New Jersey. No excuse. I called MasterCard and got rid of the late payment but I have a black mark on 1 payment to last for 30 days. I've had this card for about 25 years. Never a late payment.
This is not excusable! My nice mailman told me to mail everything that has a deadline to mail early and do so at the Post Office, not a mailbox.

(4,112 posts)and the occasional Priority package. In this case, I knew I was a little on the late side in sending these, so I brought them to our main P.O. branch and handed them to the desk clerk. I know that bills/banking via internet have their own risks, but I've never had something fail to arrive using electronic means. Very troubling. Hope that Joe and Co. have this on their priority list!

(34,136 posts)They usually close the statement and mail it about two weeks before it is due, which these days means I get it after the due date. Of course, if I wait until the bill arrives, the payment is late whether done by check or electronically.
I now call the credit card customer service line and get the balance when I am paying my other bills. Then I pay online so there is no delay and the payment arrives about the time the statement closes.
Some months over the last year, the bills all got misplaced - we were doing construction on an addition and the place to collect all the bills kept moving around. Because of my history of surgeries, I have most bills set for auto-pay so the credit cards are the only ones I want to review before they are paid. That's when I started calling in for the totals if I didn't have the bills.

(5,376 posts)Last month it took almost 4 weeks for some of my payment checks to arrive. Until DeJoy is gone I can't trust USPS.

(4,604 posts)According to my IRS transcript, it was processed on 1/6. That means it was likely mailed somewhere in the week following the 6th. Rent is due.

(1,525 posts)I think staffing the 4 open USPS board positions should be a priority, among the dozens of dumpster fires Trump left for Biden to put out.

(50,261 posts)live near the top of a hill off a dirt road in a rural area. My husband barely finished plowing when there was a knock at the door. A man from the post office hand delivered prescription drugs that had arrived. We had decided not to venture out to the post office until tomorrow and this was much appreciated. We usually get an email notification from the pharmacy, but didn't this time and the meds require refrigeration. So keep hope alive.

(395 posts)It came to the person already opened.
Louis DeJoy is still the Postmaster general and the Board of Governors of the United States Postal Service consist of 5 republicans and 1 democrat. We are stuck for awhile it seems.

(140 posts)We mailed two packages on Dec. 7 and one of Dec. 20, and, not only have they not arrived, their tracking numbers are not in the system, but are labeled "Pre-transit." Our Philly newspaper reported 10 trailers waiting to deliver their contents to the local distribution center before Christmas.
When we had to get a package to its destination on time, we drove across the river to a small town in New Jersey to mail it, and it arrived promptly.
Joe has to put fixing the USPS at the top of his agenda ASAP.

To get my maintenance drugs in 90-day supplies via USPS. No way in hell will I do that. When I did it a few years ago, it would take anywhere from a week to two days to get my delivery from 700 miles away. And one time, I never received my prescription. To fix that problem, they overnighted it to me via USPS, and it took two days.
On something important, use UPS or FedEx. Their profit motive helps with their service.

(13,964 posts)about profit motive meaning better service. The reason the Post Office is doing poorly right now is because DeJoy fucked it up. The USPS was doing great before that.

(22,697 posts)"Hey, we got mail and it's an odd numbered day!" We actually only get mail a couple times a week now. Absolutely ridiculous. I get the New Yorker, and it often comes three weeks late. WTF?!?!
