.@SpeakerPelosi has denounced this Millionaires Giveaway and included its repeal in both versions of the HEROES Act last year.
Republicans insisting on a lower price for a relief package would do well to heed her example and recoup those tax breaks in the upcoming bill.

(6,083 posts)Take back the taxpayer's money and give it to the taxpayers!

(25,464 posts)I presume that by "non-taxpayers" you meant rich people who don't pay taxes, but nearly half of low-income households don't pay federal tax, either. Any stimulus should certainly include them.

(5,275 posts)The Nation was deep in a recession when FDR took over in January 1933. The top tax bracket had been slashed to 25 or 24% and it didnt take long for the need for breadlines to feed millions.
FDR brought us out of it by raising the top bracket from 25% to 63% and eventually as high as 94%.....ending the Depression. It ranged from 86 to 92% under Truman. Republicans were ecstatic when finally Republican Dwight Eisenhower took over thinking he would slash it. He left it alone much to the chagrin of other Republicans....and it was how he financed constructing our Freeway System.
From Johnson through Nixon, Ford, Jimmy Carter it stayed up there. Then Reagan took over. When he left the White House it was 28%. It has not gone over 39.60 % since.
Of course on top of cratering the top tax tier he also begat Fox News, OAN etc by axing the long standing Fairness Doctrine.
Ronnie is at the top of the heap in creating the economic inequality we see today and the serious political divide. He should have stuck with being a B Actor.
