I tried a run around to a different county tonight and it didn't work.
My school has decided that they open in two weeks and THEY DON'T FUCKING CARE IF WE HAVE BEEN VACCINATED.
If I didn't need the salary I would quit in protest. I'm really really pissed. My county says I'm next in line but NO FUCKING VACCINES!

(13,493 posts)It's all so stressful.
If it's any consolation, my husband has been teaching in person since September. He was vaccinated last week. Thank God. But he's been safe for months teaching in person and taking the subway to work daily.
IF you have the proper PPE and your school has cleaning supplies and decent ventilation, please know it can be done safely.
He keeps the windows open in his classroom even in winter. It's been pretty cold in NYC but it makes a huge difference.
Good luck.
And hope you get the vaccine soon.

(7,968 posts)I'm just frustrated tonight because several teachers in my school managed to skip counties and get the vaccine and I missed out. I'm feeling left out and alone.

(31,261 posts)shot by showing up near the end of the day at vaccination sites and waiting until they are about to close. You may try that over the next few days. Also, you may want to ask the teachers that got shots how it went down, did they have an appointment, just show up, have friends or family in the know alert them, ect.
Hopefully this mess gets righted fast, and public school teachers get put first for shots.

It shouldn't be like this.

(31,261 posts)the work of competent vaccine distribution and injection planning begins to fully take hold. I dont think we are at that point yet, maybe another two weeks or so. I just read today that the Biden Administration will be engaging lots of pharmacies, including in places like Walmart and mom and pops to speed up the rate of vaccination, West Virginia did that from the start and it has apparently been successful there, but they are a small state.

(13,493 posts)Definitely scary going back with or without the vaccine. And the time WILL come when you can get it more easily. But that doesn't stop the fear now.
Good luck with all of it.

(21,449 posts)any consolation. I am 71, have asthma and 2 autoimmune disorders, and I can't get a vaccine shot, either. It's just not available. The county is not taking calls or online messages because they say they have no information on how much vaccine they will have, how soon they will have enough, or how they will schedule people.
My doctor's office said they applied to get vaccine and be a vaccination provider because they are a HUGE health provider, with offices throughout the county. They have not heard anything and do not expect to before March or April. I prefer the doctor's office because of multiple allergies and a possible risk of reaction, but at this point, I'd settle for a tattoo artist if they had the vaccine.
Thanks to the former WH resident, there was not enough vaccine purchased and no plan for distribution beyond making sure that governors who sucked up to him got the vaccine.

half met by video, one turned down being the next board president because covid is scary and they sat behind plexiglass
voted to send students back to school

(219 posts)they just don't care. They really don't. Our elementary kids went back in person today. They are waiting to bring middle and high school kids back. At first, it was a delay to get those teacher vaccinated because the risk from older kids who are not always under parental control is greater and they wanted to get us vaccinated. I was supposed to get my first dose last Friday, but the county only received 1,000 of the 8,000 doses it ordered.
Now the tune has changed. Now the school board is saying our return is not predicated on a fully vaccinated staff, and it never was. No one knows when the vaccines will be available.
I feel like my employer for the last 19 years does not care what happens to me. I know this is nothing new, but it has NEVER been so apparent.

(10,014 posts)next week and it was announced today that 500 vaccines will be given to school teachers and workers in our public school district starting Saturday. Its not enough but its a start.
I understand your frustration.

(12,388 posts)The kids who have chosen to attend physically are split in two groups and attend every other day so that proper distancing can be observed. All chairs that mustnt be used, including in the cafeteria have been Xd out so that seating is only available 6 feet apart in the chairs without the X. Sanitary stations are everywhere, and large blue lighted fans that destroy the virus are operating in the rooms and common areas. And of course, masks are required by all. Since August we have had three cases reported and all have been treated and quarantined.
Quite honestly, I feel safer there than at any grocery store or restaurant or beauty shop.

(7,947 posts)And you need the second shot 3 weeks later... so you needed to have the first 3 weeks ago.
I'm sorry. Double mask and keep demanding the shot! Its really not fair.

If you have to be there in person, make sure things are as safe as possible for yourself. You can control your surroundings.
What age group do you teach? The littles are harder to control. HS students are pretty good about maintaining the distance required.

(8,171 posts)I worry about her every day. We are only at the 75+ group in vaccine eligibility so she will have to wait. The school district is now pushing for full time in person and reducing distancing from 6ft to 3ft.
This has been so tough on teachers whether fully remote, hybrid or ft in person.

(4,552 posts)And Im nearly 67, with lung problems and Hubby is 73, and we are both still waiting to get appointments to be vaccinated.
