This is so foreign to me. In Michigan, at least in my area, 99.9% wear masks at the grocery store. We also have plastic shields between the customer and the cashier as a further form of protection.

(19,060 posts)He'd been living in Northern CA when the business he was working for shut down. Found a job in Naples, moved across the country. It was like a different world, the reddest of the red, no one cared one bit about Covid. His job didn't work out and he found a better one back in Northern CA.

These Florida residents help to spread the Covid menace. Is there no regulation in that state?
This makes me very angry. How many other state allow this behavior?

I'm just kidding of course, as I have friends and relatives in Florida and it is not their fault they are surrounded by idiots. As for Naples, I believe I read that local public health ordinances require masks in stores, but apparently no one is enforcing it.

(12,132 posts)although I have seen a belligerent customer or two inside the store. 99.999% of the customers and all the employees are masked and constantly cleaning.
I hate that the daughter of the founder spent some of her inheritance donating to Rump but if I want a clean store with good prices (especially for bogo items) and wide variety of stock and who goes out of their way to hire special needs kids, Publix is about the only game in town. I won't shop in Winn-Dixie or Wal-Mart and Aldi is too far away for regular shopping. Costco is a little farther too but we do get a lot of the large quantity non-perishable stuff there. I love Costco but they don't have a lot of things I need in smaller quantities and I can't use the larger quantities fast enough to keep them from spoiling. Although their gallons of vodka for 13 bucks have been a major help these last four years.

(16,167 posts)Publix has this market covered in Pinellas Cty. What you wrote is exactly how I see it and I have to buy my groceries somewhere. I'm more upset about not paying the Imalokee pickers 1 cent a pound for tomatos.
Sometimes ya just gotta pick your battles..

(31,261 posts)And shopping carts and baskets are collected and cleaned by a dedicated attendant (no multi-tasking). Looks like the same percentage of customers use masks. You get the occasional non masker, but those people stand out like sore thumbs.
I agree with you, if a person want quality items like cashews, fruit, free-range chicken, vegetables, Publix is the only choice.

(47,419 posts)That's Alfie Oakes' business. He is a big Trumper and even booked two buses to take people to DC on January 6th. Said it was a great experience. He got put in Facebook jail recently for his political rants and is looking for another venue for his bullshit. Its all about FREEDOM and he will not be silenced.
Meanwhile, he has openly violated public health regulations, really tempting fate. A lot of customers praise him, but others have left brutal reviews on Yelp because of his dangerous positions on COVID.

Unfortunately anyone that was not at the Trump rally on Jan 6th has to navigate through the lies and blatant and obvious deception perpetrated by the media, I was there ...it was the most peaceful beautiful demonstration from well over one million people that I've ever witnessed.
To be tarnished by .001% is really sad!
As hard as it is for good and honest people to believe this was a total set up to make President Trump and his supporters look bad,I am assuring you it was just that! I have to hand it to them it was an incredibly clever tactic orchestrated by those that will stop at nothing to ensure the Globalist take over of our United States. I watched with my own eyes as Capitol police invited happy and enthusiastic Trump supporters into the Capitol. They were totally unsuspecting they would be part of the ruse.
Leading the group was the obvious six or eight paid actors(used in other events such as BLM riots, hard to believe they would be that blatant and sloppy) ... followed by a small group of aggressive Trump supporters caught up in the moment, these paid actors lead the charge. Out of nearly 1 1/2 million great loving peaceful Americans supporting Liberty, Freedom and our great President this small handful incited by the paid actors unfortunately chose to cross the line. Let's not forget that one of these unfortunate souls a 15 yr military veteran and mother caught up in the moment, completely unarmed lost her life at point-blank range ALL for the sole purpose of legitimizing this planned event!
I have now found ONE thing that I completely agree on with the ever corrupt main stream media on.....This is truly one of the lowest days in our country's history!

(47,419 posts)regarding his farm workers, but can't recall the details now. Then the local school district cancelled their contract with him because of his defiant stand on COVID and masks. He's built a very impressive business and now he could easily lose it all because of his extremist views. Mixing your politics with your business is never a good idea. In his case, he could also be killing people.
He seems to be well educated and articulate, until you actually listen to what he's saying. It just dawned on me, this guy could end up running for office some day. He's more attractive and well spoken than Trump, which could make him even more dangerous.

(47,419 posts)who went with him were part of breaking into the Capitol. I haven't heard anything so far, but he sure is drawing a lot of attention to himself down in Florida. Another entitled jerk who thinks he's above the law and doesn't expect to be held accountable for anything. You know, early on he could have just backed down and shut up, but like so many republicans, he just doubles down. Eventually, all of this will catch up with him.

Disgusting!!!! These people are acting so casual about everything....The cashiers and baggers all appear to be seniors...They are leaning into each other when they talk...It's like there is no Covid.
I'm not the type to get on and berate people who don't wear masks, (had an experience on Black Friday at a redneck travel stop called Buccees) but this is ridiculous... Even Buccees had about 40% of customers wearing masks and all of Buccees workers were wearing masks.
Sure, you can't go around asking people if they have an ailment like COPD etc...but this is ridiculous....

(47,419 posts)This place has no social distancing and no required mask wearing. There is a large sign out front, which I unfortunately saw upon exiting, that says ..."if you have a medical issue, not required to wear a mask....". Seriously? More than 50% of individuals in the store, employees and shoppers, young and old, didn't wear a mask. I couldn't wait to get out of there. I am very disappointed in this business!! I don't care how good your produce is, I WON'T BE BACK !!!!!!
Coronavirus City
Great food selection and top brands. Could be a great place to shop and eat, but the implied NO mask policy for customers and employees makes this store a Covid super spreader place, first time shopper here, would have been a good customer but Ill NEVER go in that store again....unless I want to catch Covid.
Covidy
No mask on cashier, no one wiping carts, no distancing. I was so sad to see this place was not cdc compliant. This was my go to place for dinner and snacks when traveling through Naples. Fresh Market it will be from now on.
Doctor
Lived here 32 years and been to the store a few times old and new. Prices very high. Not enough organic vegetables and fruit Nobody wearing masks. As doctor not safe.

Those were all just in January. Supportive reviews often praise Alfie Oakes as a freedom-loving American. One said: "There are tik tok China reviews on here I can tell! Nothing but hatred from the left as always!"
Another five star reviewer said: "They are so very pro-America. They believe in freedom and individual liberties. They believe that every individual has the right to decide what's best for them." (i.e. masks or no masks)
