Since I have been following politics (early 90s) Republicans have always created the Democratic boogey man....its currently the squad, Pelosi and Schumer....this past decade it was Obama, Pelosi and Reid ....in the early 2000s it was Pelosi....the 90s it was Clinton and Ted Kennedy....and every Democrat running for office (senator, congress, mayor, governor, school board, dog catcher) is the tied the boogeyman....We never go after Republican candidates like that, other then maybe tying them to Trump.

(16,616 posts)unspoken thesis of Ezra Klein's controversial book Why are we Polarized? I just made a post about this in another thread and even making that post, I felt then and feel now tremendous ambivalence.
But decades of political science studies and more recent developments in Game Theory, and the example of the Republicans, show us what we need to do to play the long game better and use anger to motivate more effective and dependable voting.
I haven't been prepared to go there before, but everything is at stake now, and I'm deeply considering this question.
I'll leave it at that.

Get that, or even a portion of it, for Democratic messaging and there is no "need" to create boogeymen.

(32,626 posts)it isn't the Republicans elected to office that blow up Democrats through lies and innuendo. They tow the party line, but the real bull-horn is controlled by those they serve. If the Democrats went with the 'Third Way' and attempted to woo some of the real money in politics, perhaps it would be a different story. They too might have their own network, and plenty of money for shenanigans to take down any perceived threat.
