"Kyle Rittenhouse failed to inform the court of his change of address within 48 hours of moving, Kenosha County prosecutors alleged in a motion filed with Judge Bruce Schroeder. The motion asks Schroeder to issue an arrest warrant and increase Rittenhouse's bail by $200,000.
Rittenhouse's attorney, Mark Richards, countered in his own motion Wednesday that death threats have driven Rittenhouse into an "undisclosed Safe House. Richards said he offered to give prosecutors the new address in November if they would keep it secret but they refused. He said Rittenhouse has stayed in constant contact with him."

UPDATE: Rittenhouse's attorney says they intentionally wrote the wrong address on court papers after being advised to do so by a "high-ranking member of the Kenosha Police Department." This, the defense claims, was to protect the location of a "safe house" for the defendant.

I also saw an email the prosecutor sent to defense counsel saying "give me proof of the threats."
I'm guessing there was no proof given.

Wait, they're not just stupid. They asked the prosecutor, the prosecutor objected and told them what they had to do. The prosecutor foreshadowed further objection. So... they just lied?
My god. These lawyers should be losing sleep. Outside the US, this is a career-ender.

NEW: Rittenhouse's attorney just sent me their response
Rittenhouse's lawyers say the family is staying at a 'safe house' and they had asked the DA to seal the address.
They say this was the email in response, so they moved without telling the court

(14,708 posts)It's up to the courts. Make a motion. Live by the verdict.
You don't get to unilaterally declare freedom. If he is in danger, jail is a good place to put him.
running into hiding is evading. nothing more.

(5,969 posts)Either the courts can reach him or not. His lawyers are either lying or incredibly incompetent to not inform the responsible persons in order for both sides to remain in contact.

(1,654 posts)If he lies to the court under oath he can lose his ability to practice law. Also get the name of the so-called high ranking police official who told him to put in the wrong address. Defendant deserves a fair trial. He doesn't deserve to live anywhere he wants awaiting trial. But because he's a right wing darling he's entitled.

(50,554 posts)If the lawyer won't produce the name or the location of the alleged murderer, hit him with a criminal contempt citation and refer him for disbarment action.
As to Rittenhouse, revoke his bond. Forget this "increase his bail" shit; there are plenty of hard right figures - think the kind of people who would have stormed the Capitol if they weren't already on the no-fly list - who would pool their money to get this asshole back out of jail.

This is bullshit. The kid moved and didn't notify and now the lawyer is trying to get him out of the bind.
Revoke bail and take into custosy.

(6,513 posts)You don't play fast and loose with the Court rules. The defendant and his attorney made a mockery of the Court provisions for bail. The judge would be completely justified in revoking his bail and sanctioning his attorney.
Let's see what happens.

(6,513 posts)Where is the line you cross when it becomes aiding and abetting a fugitive? What difference does it make that the defendant was in "constant touch" with his attorney, when the prosecutors and the Court did not know where the defendant was? It's like saying, "The hit man was in constant communication with the mob boss." So what!
