Despite the howling Monday snowstorm, two Rhode Islanders went to a hospital to show their appreciation for the frontline health care workers so they could get home to their families faster.
Abbey Meeker, and her friend's son 10-year-old Christian Stone headed to Westerly Hospital in the chilly late evening hours, according to WJAR news.
"Christian wanted to do something good for nurses about a month ago when it stormed, and he said next time it snowed, he wanted to clean cars off for nurses because of COVID," Meeker said. "I told him I would come with him."
"I was thinking they've been helping us a lot through this whole pandemic, and I figured why don't we help them, you know?" Christian said. "All day, every day the nurses here, they deal with the pandemic like COVID and they want to get home from work, so we thought we would make it a tiny bit easier for them by cleaning off their cars for them."
Nice to know some people are parenting successfully!

(57,073 posts)Not much chance repuke kids would ever do anything without some huge return for them personally. They simply do not comprehend the joy in expressing gratitude. Hell, they may not even be aware that such a concept exists.
Reciprocity? What's that?

(57,073 posts)I always thank medical providers (never encountered military folks). I've done this for years and they have always looked at me really strangely.
But my thought is that I (or anyone else) could well be in an area of the world without medical care, so I appreciate they being available to me (and us, collectively).
When I encounter a provider who is so outrageously good at what they do that one can easily surmise that they are fulfilling their "mission" in the mundane, I thank them for "doing what you came to Earth to do," which always elicits a chuckle. Those folks know what they are doing.
I keep wondering about the many, many young kiddos who were clients with Asperger's (mild autism), who all emphatically stated, "I came to save our planet Earth!" (Unprompted, just spontaneously.) I am hoping to see them rise up like a tsunami and "fix" (?) climate change to save not only humans but the other species -- the ones who did not create the problem.
