McCarthy said in August there was 'no place for QAnon in the Republican Party.' On Wednesday, he claimed he didn't even know what the conspiracy theory was.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Wednesday claimed he did not know what the QAnon conspiracy theory is, despite having denounced it less than six months ago.

McCarthy played dumb about QAnon in order to justify his decision not to punish Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the embattled Georgia Republican who has expressed support for the conspiracy theory.

Greene has not only expressed support for the QAnon conspiracy theory — which the FBI deems a domestic terror threat — but is also under fire for endorsing the execution of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, saying mass school shootings were "false flag" operations meant to build support for gun control, and blaming a deadly California wildfire on space lasers owned by Jewish billionaires.

Despite McCarthy claiming ignorance of QAnon, he has referenced it in past interviews. In an Aug. 20 interview with Fox News’s Shannon Bream, McCarthy condemned the extremist ideology.

“Let me be very clear, there is no place for QAnon in the Republican Party. I do not support it,” he said.

During a news conference in November, a reporter asked McCarthy if he had concerns about new members like Greene and Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), who have supported QAnon, potentially creating controversy for the House GOP. The House minority leader responded that both representatives “denounced Q-on,” mispronouncing QAnon.

Qanon has been in the news for months. If McCarthy truly doesn't know who "they" are, he's an ignorant idiot who lacks simple curiosity. As another poster put it, it takes a mere moment to Google Qanon: I got 30.8 million hits in .51 seconds. Hey, McCarthy! Ever hear of the internet?

Actually, we know that McCarthy is simply a bald-faced liar. And not a very good one at that.
