He's a school bus driver and gets his first shot tomorrow. I'm very relieved, for him.
Genesee County, MI is setting appointments for Group 1A, only (Healthcare workers, Long term care residents and staff). I'm way down in group 1C. The 'estimated time for appointments' still says JANUARY. Hopefully they don't mean January 2022!! Apparently the Flint area hasn't been punished enough. And, it's the only county showing up with that notification.
Damn. I'm actually feeling more anxiety, now, than I have been throughout this whole pandemic. I might need to make an emergency run to my local cannabis shop!

(26,251 posts)Of course, he was never officially diagnosed because they were telling people to stay home, if they could. Fortunately he made it through although he said it was the sickest he's ever felt in his entire life. I'm just glad his housemates were there to keep an 'ear' on him. He lives on the 3rd floor and was completely isolated from everyone else.
The frightening thing is, he was at my house a few times, before we realized what was happening AND when he was likely very contagious. So I either dodged a bullet or was asymptomatic. I had a cold at that time so who knows.

(8,445 posts)My group got to start signing up this past Monday, with the actual vaccinations starting in "mid-February". As much as I want the vaccine, I feel like others should be ahead of me. I have the ability to stay home, so I could wait.
Still, our governor said that when it's our turn we should go ahead and get it, and not feel guilty.
I know I'm going to feel guilty.

Seriously. I know what you mean, but ghat's how it is planned. Go with the flow!

(26,251 posts)I'm thinking about doing the same thing at Meijer, and any other place that offers pre-registration.
Not sure if my county health department is inept, or there's something else preventing enough availability.
And, yea, I'm able to isolate at home so I shouldn't be so impatient. And I have a weirdly robust immune system. Maybe I just have too much time on my hands and I'm waaayyyy over-worrying about things. I know I became much more anxious after my friend died of Covid. She was a stickler for precautions, and yet she got it and it killed her.

(8,445 posts)It's just scary to know that we can be doing everything the way we're supposed to be doing it and still get it.

(63,893 posts)devised a near perfect plan. The roll out was wildly successful! No SNAFUS, no hassle. We got the number to call and they answered within 3 rings, registered us and told us where to go, we got directions, we were told to bring our Medicare Advantage card and an ID.
We got to the site at 10 minutes prior to appt., waited briefly in car, were directed into the building and then into a room filled with medical personnel at stations. No long line, friendly people dispensing and got a card listing our first shot which we will bring to our second.
It was so well organized I was surprised but delighted!
Doncha love it when you can brag to your Trumpie neighbor about how government can be just fabulous!

Imagine if all repukes would just gtf out of our way!!!

(63,893 posts)this rollout. Repthugs were mad as hell but WTF! Now they are getting their vaccine to keep them from DYING! Maybe just this once they can admit that government CAN work!

(57,073 posts)No, they won't admit it. Sickos!

(63,893 posts)how high taxes are in this state and how government wastes their money. If they hate it so much here in CT you can just go back to where you came from (a low tax state I won't name). Here you get what you pay for.

(63,893 posts)He and his wife lost a preemie baby some years ago and set up a little fund in our community foundation. I have started to donate to the fund (it's for a room set aside for new parents of a preemie baby that doesn't make it). They were very grateful. I think this is beyond political factions and about human beings.

(26,251 posts)I can't think of any other reason why it's the only one that seems to be having this issue.

(63,893 posts)with it. I'm guessing no, that it's just a common sense, good government Dem governor who cares about people.

(16,162 posts)Hoping to have an N95 to wear.
I would have just double masked with the surgical masks and felt reasonably comfortable on a not-too-crowded flight. But the new variant is a whole other level of contagious.
If it werent for the flight Id be relatively okay with just staying home and waiting my turn.

(639 posts)I think the roll-out schedule is statewide, not just Genesee Cty. I signed up with Meier and Walgreens. Keeping fingers crossed that things will move FAST for us folks in the Flint area.

Not even a link. I pre-registered through the state, quite a while ago so hopefully that will help with my placement. I'm going to look into the Walgreens sign up, too. I should check to see if there are any options for veterans, too.
