Its been shown to reduce transmission of other diseases, most recently a polio-like illness affecting children. Even with immunity assumed because of COVID-19 vaccination, its important not to transmit the disease as a silent carrier. Does anyone else plan on continuing to wear masks in public, even after most other people have moved past it?

(7,771 posts)...mask wearing is routine now.
I noticed it years ago when I went to a local Asian market in California. I never understood it until now.
Nobody thought anything of it...

(25,932 posts)Fumes, by their nature, may be the hardest to filter from the air. There are benefits to the wearer, certainly.

(6,679 posts)My husband was on chemo. We could not risk regular colds either. He passed Dec 2019 so with with Covid, I have kept up the same.
I will be grateful for more freedom though. It has been a hard 7 years.

(12,286 posts)It is quite common in many Asian countries.
It reduces flu and cold transmission by a lot!
I will mask up indoors while shopping for the rest of my life.

I think hand shaking should just go away permanently. It serves no real purpose and is a real disease vector.
I also hope there is a cultural change regarding going to work sick. It is a bad idea even when it isn't a deadly disease. Historically, we have been a tough-it-out-and-carry-on culture. I know I was often guilty of going to work when I shouldn't have. We would all be better off if we practiced isolation when were weren't feeling well.

(11,686 posts)I have friends and a mother in their 80's and I will never trust this to be gone enough to take down any guard. It is not comfortable but it is necessary. COVID like any other of the pandemics we have had will never go away. It will be well controlled but some will still get it.

I haven't had to miss one day or see a doctor for any of it this year. I want masks to be permanent!
