Trolls simply don't show up anymore, or get nuked quickly.

5. That's been going on for years

It's too bad, because their content is high quality as you say. But I can't really read through posts there because of all the trolling and spam. If I do a read-through, which isn't often, I flag the spam, but it isn't usually worth it.
