Anyone else think a lot of Republicans believe that Democrats should be killed?

I feel like a pretty high percentage of Republicans seriously believe Democrats should be rounded up and executed because they are evil-- maybe 20-30%.

Whereas the percentage of Democrats who think the reverse about Repubs has got to be minute, maybe 1 in 10,000?

I think part of the whole problem we have right now is Repubs have been programmed for years to think that Democrats are truly evil, and I don't know how we get around that.

I have a couple of right wing cousins, but one in particular exudes hate for the libs. His FB page is mostly political & mostly negative, hateful posts about the dems, the left, or the libs & his right wing friends all pile on with their hate, too. He's the only family member that I've unfriended.

I don't think anywhere near that many GOPers believe that. There are exceptions, of course, but I think many are just childish dopes who go along with whatever they're fed and think it's cool to act tough.

We're seeing that with many of the insurrectionists. As soon as they were busted, they bailed on the tough-guy nonsense and said they were just "caught up in the moment". If they really believed all the nonsense, they'd stick to their guns (pun intended) and not back down in the face of real opposition. Instead, they're cowering behind their attorneys or their eight kids.

Same thing with Congress. Most of the GOP Senators bailed on the "overturn the election" garbage the night of the insurrection because it was no longer just a big game. The ones who didn't are just grandstanding idiots like Hawley.

The GOP House is another story, but most of them don't believe the BS either. They just know what their constituents want them to say.

Again, there are certainly exceptions but I don't think the average voter believes that even if they say they do.

I'm only half-joking. I think for the vast majority of people, the "Dems should be killed" nonsense is just blather. They don't want to do it themselves. They think some vague entity is going to do it for them. In Trump's case, they assume he was going to have the government or the military round up the libs. Convenient for them.

Of course, there are again exceptions. I think the most likely would be former/current members of the military or police who have had training and/or experience and the fake militia crowd. Lots of PTSD in the former and lots of delusions of grandeur in the latter.

I honestly don't know how many of them are capable of killing people based on relentless propaganda or would do so if given the opportunity.

I think the number is relatively small, but it's quite certainly not zero and probably higher than most of us would feel comfortable with. It's figuring out who those non-zero ones are that is the hard part, just like with any other potential terrorists.

I have a liberal friend whose cousin believes, wholeheartedly, that the day is coming soon when he'll be called on to do his "patriotic duty" and put his considerable personal arsenal to work shooting Democrats.

Well, my liberal friend is well-armed himself, and has told his cousin (who is actually quite dear to him): "Okay, fair warning: you do understand that when that day arrives, I'll come gunning for you just as fast as I can to prevent you from slaughtering all those innocent folks...right?"

And that, right there, is a microcosm of present-day U.S. society - thanks to decades of right-wing propaganda and brainwashing.

Even if they've not said the words themselves, they support people who have said those words. It is appalling and terrifying. My husband and I own a couple of small businesses and the vast majority of our customer base is RWNJ's unfortunately. While most of our customers do not physically come to our shop - most orders are shipped - I have felt threatened enough to take down all references to my political beliefs since the insurrection. I had a KAMALA sign, Women's March memorabilia and Democratic Underground bumper sticker on my bulletin board. No more. These people are crazy and I don't doubt they would harm me or my business. We received a call last summer from a MAGAt yelling that they would not do business with liberals.

I used to work at a place where one of the supervisors Would send Inappropriate political emails. Mostly religious garbage, about 10 commandments in schools, In God We Trust on money etc. Just a very sweet older lady, although she was a bit on the crazy side. One email, from back when HRC and Obama were senators, called for them to be executed for treason because they didn’t support an anti-flag burning ammendment.

And that would go for every one of them, from my Dumb-Ass uncle in GA, to my Dipshit cousin in IL, to every single family member or former friend that sold their soul to that Orange piece of shit! I will never forgive any of them - they can apologize, they can repent, they can say they didn't realize, they didn't know, and I will say they can go Fuck Off! Having that R next to your name, voting for anyone with that R next to their name, is no longer acceptable to me, I am out of fucks to give!
