experts at the State department and intelligence agencies first. Ya know, to have a plan going in. Then I would be willing to bet he stuck with the plan and those agencies have the recording of the call. That kind of thing comes in handy. Carefully giving Putin the message we want, then being able to analyze his response.

former ambassador to Russia. McFaul helped developed the US policies under President Obama, and I think I read that he was going to help out President Biden, too. I believe McPaul currently teaches at Stanford.

I forget the story, but a few years back Putin wanted Donald to extradite McFaul to Russia, and Donald considered it! It would have been bad politics for Donald, and you know him - always looking out for himself.
