Raskin extending the invitation to testify means that Trump can't whine about how he wasn't allowed to tell his side of the story. That's not quite true; Trump will whine anyway about anything the crosses his little pea brain. At least the rejoinder is there: But Mr. President, didn't Rep. Raskin invite you to testify either before or during the trial? Why didn't you take him up on the offer?

Because any lawyer who puts on the stand a client whom they know is a pathologically lying asshole, there only to spew lies and bullshit, is subject to some fairly serious sanctions.
