New judicial vacancy of note: US District Judge Emmet Sullivan (who you may remember from such cases as Michael Flynn, the USPS mess, and SO MANY more) is taking senior status in April, opening up his seat for a Biden nominee, per Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton's office

To those lamenting the loss of Sullivan on the DC bench — he's not leaving! He's taking senior status, which means he can scale back his caseload if he wants (some senior judges keep up v. busy dockets) and is no longer bound by a cap on outside earnings for teaching, books, etc.

Judge Emmet Sullivan has been a judge since 1984, serving on the DC Superior Court, DC Court of Appeals, and, since 1994, the federal district court in DC. I asked what's next once he takes senior status in April. "Business as usual," he replied.

My guess is he won’t have an issue with helping his replacement learn the ropes, people like him seem to consider such behavior an honor.
