Val Demings Open to Running for Higher Office
February 4, 2021 at 1:47 pm EST By Taegan Goddard

Rep. Val Demings (D-FL) told the Washington Post she is open to the possibility of running for Florida governor or U.S. Senate in 2022.

Said Demings: “I certainly would not talk about any private conversations that I’m having. But as I said, there’s plenty of work to do in the House right now. If that would take me to another campaign, then I’m keeping that door open.”

We need an infrastructure. We need outreach. Our candidates, by and large, only reach out 3 months before an election. I’ve talked with one of the more dynamic state legislators for the Democrats. The situation is dire.

The Biden/Harris team can’t have completely faded yet. With our new DNC chair Jamie Harrison, there’s hope. Perhaps reach out to the Florida group here?

And certainly to the newly organized DNC.

Good luck, your state is important!

We need an entire makeover. A multi year rebuild.

I appreciate the kind words but I’m exhausted. We have been the minority party for 23 years. How do I keep going? Florida should be purple at least but I have no clue where to go.

We need a Stacey Abrams but it too her 10 years to build what she did - and Democrats are still in the minority at the state level.

I would say finding young people to cooperate with older folks Intergenerational he is the solution but I regret to this day bringing on a much younger person who ended up being a real creep.

How else? Maybe the DNC needs to know that you are exhausted and need help?

Shocking how regressive and atavistic the rural areas have become. I grew up in Florida and driving through areas that used to be tomato and strawberry fields and friendly farmers’ stands, all I could see was trump signs, confederate flags, rightwing slogans and and a hard edge to the atmosphere.

Sad.
