General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsRarely have I seen a speech by Steny Hoyer, but DAMN
his floor time today scorched the living hell out of that rancid **** Marjori T Green. He deserves a massive standing O for that.
Saw it a little while ago on Lawrence O'Donnell's show. I was so moved by his genuine outrage and concern for the Squad when he brought out a posterboard of Greene's ar-15 pointed at them.
Here's the whole video. Republiqons should be so deeply ashamed of themselves. They're not, but the should be.

They are human, they are mothers, they work with all of you.
And Miss Green was holding a gun pointed towards them.

Yes we don't often see this kind of thing.
It hit me too.

(11,546 posts)Probably would have made not a bit of difference to the republiqon scumbags, after all Steve Scalise is still one of the NRA and assault rifle's cheerleaders even though a gunhumper nearly murdered him.

(1,654 posts)I always thought Hoyer was a little bland, didn't pay much attention to him, but I must say I was impressed.

(11,546 posts)I kinda thought the same, that he was "stale" or "establishment", but this must have really gotten to him, because that was so heartfelt and memorable.

(4,533 posts)He is exactly what our founders hoped future legislators would be.
One of the reasons I push back so hard on those who are overly critical of Congressional Democrats like Hoyer, Pelosi, etc. is that they are exceptional leaders and public servants who do an incredible job every day, even if they're not flashy, or zinging people on Twitter, or constantly showing their hands. They are just working their tails off day after day.
It's nice to see some people here realize just what a badass Stent Hoyer actually is, even if he doesn't make a lot of noise.

(23,612 posts)There is a reason why he has been Nancy's #2 going back to when she was Minority Leader and Majority Leader... he was the Whip for crying out loud! The Whip is the one who rounds up the votes. He and Nancy are a great team.
He is low key but he knows when to throw a touchdown.
He was the highest ranking Democrat to attend Speaker Jim Wright's funeral. Nancy would have been there but she was in Japan. One of our Democratic House members introduced me to him at the reception afterwards. He is so much of a hard working background member I was not sure who he was and had to ask Congressman Marc Veasy! He just quietly goes on doing his job and very well .
Is this on You Tube?

(2,010 posts)As a native New Yorker I'm proud he was also born there, although he was raised in Maryland.
He has a JD from Georgetown and he went right into local politics. He would have made an amazing trial lawyer, but I'm glad he found his way to Congress.
He is the most senior House Democrat, and the House majority leader, has served as minority whip, and chair and vice chair of the House Democratic conference. He's no slouch.
He has 3 daughters, which might have helped fuel his sincere outrage, and he supports and encourages Nancy in her role. He might have been speaker, but understood Nancy could do it better. He a great 2nd in command.
Something I find interesting, his ancestor on his mother's side was John Hart of New Jersey, who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. I think that also helped inspire his eloquent and passionate speech.
As he repeated Edmond Burke's quote about evil flourishing if good men do nothing, I saw him challenging and imploring his colleagues to be good "men". He had to try, but they're not good, that's the problem. Congressman Hoyer showed himself to be the best of men.
Thanks for sharing the video.

(12,327 posts)There was no room left for doubt about Greene's odious behavior. The republicans that voted to keep her in place on the committees are craven political tools.
