(6,377 posts)Manchin has been extremely vocal about it. He won't vote to pass the budget in the end if it's in there.

Sanders, the Senate Budget chairman, successfully defused a fight late Thursday over Bidens proposal to increase the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour.
At issue was a non-binding budget amendment from Senator Joni Ernst, an Iowa Republican, that opposed raising the wage during a global pandemic.
While Sanders said he still intends to increase the wage to $15 an hour in the virus relief package, he said his plan always called for a five year phase-in. He said the $15 wage would be in place five years from now, not during the pandemic itself, so he would support Ernsts amendment.

(21,596 posts)In low wage stages, any incremental increase will mean a huge immediate increase.
As a Georgia resident, Im OK with this approach.

(43,356 posts)Perhaps I am wrong but I always thought it (15 usd ph) would be incremental anyway, AND that Manchin was opposed to even that.

(1,977 posts)In 5 more years we will just need to raise it again.
This is so fucking demoralizing. We have a military budget that is beyond fucking bonkers and we cannot seem to find a way to keep our people from living in poverty.

(8,292 posts)Biden's proposal was to raise the minimum wage by 2025, which would not be during the pandemic. Regardless, the amendment was non binding and has no affect on the terms of the bill. Manchin will still vote for the bill as his political future will depend on it.
Johnny2X2X
(19,066 posts)There's a separate stand alone bill for $15 that has zero chance of passing, take $11 an hour and make it a little quicker than 2025 so you can then work on raising it further.
If 2 years from now the Federal minimum wage is still $7.25 Dems deserve the blame.

(8,292 posts)Which throws coldwater into all of the republican rhetoric. I would be happy if the first incremental raise is by January. And yes 11 dollars should be a minimum
