Local hospital opened a site just for 65 and older and health impaired at a local church. Very smooth operation, lots of National Guard. In and out in 19 minutes. I think hospital did this after it was disclosed they had let excrable Hillsdale College jump the line at a previous cllinic. They have gotten lots of pushback because very few Hillsdale college employees are on any eligible list. When the story went national many were really up in arms.
Hillsdale College has so corrupted the area the hospital director could not figure out they are not special. Anyhow they abruptly announced a call for the people that should have been taken care of before college employees. They even made the registration process easier than it had been. Our second dose is set for the 26th. By the way Phizer vaccine. The gaurdsman that administered my dose was very good. In and out before I knew it.

(5,248 posts)today for next week. The Florida system has been a mess thanks to Deathsantis. Today it worked and I noticed our county had 1000 more doses available. Thanks JOE!

(2,716 posts)Like most of us, my wife and I have struggled to get our first COVID-19 vaccination. We watched in horror as appointment times vanished while we raced to fill in the on line forms on the Island Hospital and Skagit Countys very non user friendly websites. Our one ray of hope was the Island Drug website that let us keep our place in line even though the vaccination date kept slipping due to the uncertain supply of the vaccine.
We resisted the temptation to travel to other parts of the state. We had a confirmed appointment in Oak Harbor and Island Drug had been very good about communicating with us. Our willingness to work with the system was rewarded with the very harrowing experience of actually trying to receive the vaccine.
Our day started with a very reassuring email reminding us of our allotted time slot and the procedure we were to follow to get the vaccine. Arriving at the pharmacy in Oak Harbor, we were astonished at the full and overflowing parking lot and a long line to the building where social distancing did not appear to be even slightly observed if it were even possible.
Per our instructions, we sent a text announcing our arrival and waited anxiously for the text message telling us to come into the store for our vaccinations. As directed, we waited in our car for more than ninety minutes for the notice to proceed. Just as we were debating giving up, we received the text telling to come into the store.
At the entrance to the store, we were told that having an appointment didnt really mean anything. We were directed to the back of the long and growing queue to wait our turn. We subsequently learned that Island Drug had opened the vaccination to all comers. Their reader board advertised COVID-19 Vaccinations for 65 and some 60+. Word had gotten out that their carefully planned scheduling meant nothing.
We got our shots. Well now start looking for opportunities to get our second dose but Island Drug / La Conner Drug will be, from now on, our pharmacy of last resort.

(36,748 posts)I got it in the MI county in which my dad resides. I am an elder care provider for him.
So far some minor joint pain is the worst of it for me.

Smooth sailing at my usual clinic about 10 blocks away. They had their act together as far as social distancing, information readily available, cozy area to sit for the 15 minute wait time (during a snowstorm!) and I cant say enough about the courteous, cheery staff! In and out in about 30 minutes, including the wait time!

We need to be focusing on getting shots into arms quickly, not begrudging our neighbor having gotten a shot or being so hard-assed about equity we're turning away people who genuinely need inoculation (which is MOST people) and throwing out doses.

(7,517 posts)Sticking point is the college in general were scofflaws. They resisted every Whitmer order. They encouraged risky behavior and championed herd immunity. People were actually angrier at the Hosp. administrator for allowing that.

(317 posts)Superbly organized.....taken in 5 min...wait for observation 15 & out the door. Arrows on floor & staff every few yards to direct, answer questions, check to see doing okay, make follow up appointment.
