Sen Durbin: After the violence of the Capitol riots, it's time to fight domestic terrorism
Boarded-up windows. Broken furniture. Cracked doors. If you walked through the Capitol today, you can still see the scars of the devastating attack on Jan. 6.
The mob incited by the former president of the United States overwhelmed police. They waved confederate and neo-Nazi flags and desecrated the halls of our democracy.
They attacked police officers with flag poles, and hockey sticks. 140 policeman were injured: cracked ribs, smashed spinal discs. One officer is going to lose an eye, one was stabbed with a metal rod. One died and since then two have taken their own lives.
They shouted Wheres Nancy? and Hang Mike Pence and carried zip ties and wore tactical gear, seemingly preparing for a gruesome and violent siege.

Capitol rioters were domestic terrrorists
Make no mistake: these were domestic terrorists who came within mere seconds of reaching the then-vice president of the United States and members of Congress.

Time to fight domestic terrorism
The House passed this critical bill unanimously last Congress. But Republican Senator Ron Johnson stood in the way of its passage in the Senate.
As incoming Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I will use the Committees authority, to demand all federal law enforcement agencies use every resource available to combat the rise of violent extremist groups, white supremacists, and violent fringe conspiracy theorists who are intent on undermining our government. - Senator Dick Durbin -
