As a Biden doubter

And I was a big one through the primaries and terrified of his nomination. "Shit, another moderate go along to get along. Lovely."

I'm impressed.

Wait, that doesn't capture it.

I am completely fucking impressed.

There's coming hard out of the gate, and then there's tearing the gate to shreds to the point we're not even sure what just happened.

Seriously. What an impressive first few weeks this administration is having. No matter what thing I see where I might start raising an eyebrow, I completely forget about it ten seconds later because his administration did something else that is completely awesome.

And I'll small-note that Schumer has upped his game. I doubted there as well. It's early days, but no ankle-biting from my end. And I'm an AOC progressive type.

Just wanted to say.

And what I'm seeing in things is hidden rage at what Trump did to the country. It's deeply hidden, but it's there. His transition team looked upon the political and social fabric and said to themselves, "And now we will tear down all his works."

I knew Biden would take our crises seriously. He's a serious, empathetic man.

But boy howdy. The steel fist in the woolly mitten.

small margin in the Senate. IMO Biden was the only candidate who could beat trump (Clyburn knew), and now he's showing determination to get the nation back on track from trump's dereliction of duty through this whammy of four crises—covid, the economy, racial reckoning and climate change.

He's appointed competent professionals to his cabinet and agencies as well. trump hired sycophants, many with no expertise in field they were to head. DeVos, Carter, Ross come to mind.

I am a huge fan of Roosevelt and the way he approached his job in a time of national distress was amazing and what the country needed. (I wish I could have seen the faces of the elite when that magazine came out with the quote, "Beware those who claim the wings of liberty to feather their own nests." I bet there was some pearl clutching that morning!) Biden has that opportunity, but to imagine any politician these days being half of what Roosevelt was is a stretch. I hope he stays at it. The House has spent the last four years passing "shovel-ready" legislation that's been sitting on Mitch McConnell's desk ever since. Not to take away from Biden's accomplishments, but lots of credit should go to Democratic legislators who have hung in there and still tried to be constructive for the past four years.

I'm glad to see them recognising the urgency of getting everything through that they possibly can before the midterms.

Biden has had years in government, including 8 years as Obama’s right-hand man. I’m sure during those years he determined things he would do if and when he got the chance. Now he’s finally in charge, and he is moving fast. Not only does he have a boatload of Trump trash to remove, but he has a pandemic on his hands and perhaps only two years to accomplish his big goals. Biden is well aware that Republicans may retake the House majority in 2022 after Republican states gerrymander their districts to ensure more Republican wins.

I think he also learned from the Obama experience with the ACA that you can bend over backwards for Republicans for the sake of cooperation and all they will do is knife you in the back. So now he’s fine with passing the Covid relief by Democrats only.

It also helps that Biden knows a lot of very smart, experienced government operatives who also know how to get things done. I’m impressed with General Austin already.

He is the exact right person for the job at this time in history. No one else has his configuration of experience to pull off what he is doing.

I would add that he knows how to be a leader as well. The pressers show how the media is directed to the appropriate agencies for answers to their questions. Good leaders delegate, it is nice to see he knows the boundaries of his position.

On DAY ONE, he swore-in 1,000 new staff! Now that is being ready!

I never disliked Biden, but Sanders was my guy. Now I think we’ll be going big on many things anyway. One of his few mistakes so far is being open to changing income requirements for the next stimulus. But he’s undoing Trump’s damage quite well!

I'm a little younger than Joe, but my original thoughts were that we needed someone much younger to take the reins of democracy. After Harris dropped out, and Mayor Pete didn't have the support to go on, I started to rethink Biden. As much as DJT screwed up this country, we were going to need someone with a working knowledge of government, and someone with a very steady hand. Joe Biden was the only candidate that fit that description, at least to my way of thinking. Bernie supporters will probably want to take me to the woodshed on this, but Bernie's ideas would be too extreme for many middle-of-the-road Americans. If Democrats were going to take back the White House, Joe Biden was the person for the job. We'll eventually get to Bernie's positions, but it's going to take some time, and unfortunately Bernie probably won't be around when they happen.

Joe and Kamala are the team that our country needs at this crucial point in time, and they're doing a splendid job so far.

Looking at all of this from outside the country, what I am really enjoying is the unity of purpose amongst democratic supporters.

I have appreciated the personal bonds that have strengthened within the party. The people here particularly who are talking about a new found respect for Joe Biden AND Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. I've never seen as little in-fighting amongst democrats. Long may it last.

Meanwhile the Republicans are tearing each other apart and being stuck with Trump, Boebert and Greene as the face of their parry. Long may it last.

But, as the campaign unfolded I began to have more and more respect for his strength, compassion, honesty, and determination.
If these first few weeks have proved anything, it's that he is more than up for the job. After 4 years of Trump, it's great to have someone in the oval office who is as big as the job. He's already shown that he won't take any BS from the Republicans, and that he is willing to do what it takes to fix what Trump broke.
He's a real leader, not a self aggrandizing sociopath who needs to have everything revolve around him like Trump.

Even now, we did not have a “blue wave.” Traditionally the party in power loses seats in the midterm and both Clinton and Obama lost the Democratic House after two years. Only a moderate has any chance of accomplishing anything in two years.

The “AOC leftists” better realise this, unless they want to follow the R’s in CA who in the 90’s “stood on principle” and lost all state offices.

To recap, Biden wasn't my first choice (that was Kamala, so I'm still very happy!), but I thought about what Joe could offer that none of the other candidates could, & I concluded that he could be an elder statesman figure who represented a return to normalcy, a return to normalcy that many Americans desperately wanted after 4 years of T*.

I believe I was correct in my assessment & I was confident he would do a good job. However, he's blown me away with how quickly he's plowed ahead wiping away the damage caused by T*. I really didn't expect it & it's making me damn happy!!!

He's going right for the heart of darkness - the fossil fuel industry. Yes, I am having a sad/mad today because the Senate f'ed it up, but this does not diminish the importance of Biden's action as an indication of his determination to END the fossil fuel insanity.

He's demanding every agency put the climate crisis on its agenda! With Buttigieg as Transportation Secretary and Haaland as Secretary of the Interior and a huge infrastructure bill on deck - AOC's Green New Deal may be enacted on a faster than she thought possible timetable.

A FIFTY PERCENT reduction in child poverty over a few year's time - that makes me cry with joy. Activists fighting for a reduction in child poverty were hoping to reduce it by one-third over a 10-year period. 50% in less than half of that time frame is jaw-dropping!!!

Biden was not at the top of my list at the beginning of the primaries either, though I never picked a single favorite. I had a feeling he would end up being the top runner though, and eventually was so relieved when he did. It seemed obvious toward the end that he's the one we needed. When he picked Kamala as his running mate, that was when my confidence in Joe locked into place.

It's early days, but so far he's exceeding my wildest dreams. There are going to be bumps along the way, but if he can continue pushing things along with a steady hand, we are all going to be in good shape and the country is going to recover from the trump nightmare.

I definitely had my doubts about Schumer also. Again, so far he is doing very well. Yay!

That desire to make a country and a world where everyone is able to live a good life with enough to eat, a home of their own and opportunity to see your neighbors and your children thrive is the basis for progressive thought. Joe has always given the right the benefit of the doubt because he is so fair minded and decent, Everyone has seen where that has led us. Conservative ideas are just selfish and hateful. I was disappointed by some of the concessions Obama made and I was worried Biden would do too much of the same when we really desperately need a fighter more than ever.

I voted for Bernie in the primary. I didn't really think he had a shot - I'm in a late primary state and the writing was already on the wall - but I wanted to show my support for his progressive agenda and signal to Biden that those policies are popular.

I underestimated Biden, and I'm very glad to have been wrong about that.

I had my doubts as well, and I think he played it perfectly. I am so happy that he is being the president that we need, and that he understands that republicans, as much as he would have wanted them to work with him, may not do it so he pushes along.

I also believe that his actions of not caving to republicans stupidity and obstruction will eventually bring them to the table, not that I care to tell you the truth, but still would be nice. It is a dream to think that both parties would join forces to make this the country that it can be, but first republicans need to clean up house and get rid of the many imbeciles who represent them.

All I am hoping is for Biden to eventually adopt some of the progressive ideas that we as a country desperately need.

They somehow looked into their krystal balls and just KNEW a Biden Future would be just as, and more than likely, WORSE right-wing than Trump (austerity, racism, wars, etc.).

THEN, they threw in the whole senility thing, which was a huge low blow. Think about this: could a senile frail invalid have whooped DONALD FRIGGIN' TRUMP'S ass in 2 debates (woulda been 3 had the friggin' one not ducked so blatantly)? He's always been a quirky communicator with little filter, we all knew that.

And those cabinet picks and his whole Administration so far... reminds me of an old concept, supposedly from Islam, but maybe in other disciplines: instead of condemning someone for drinking from a filthy glass, you just sit next to them and quietly drink from a clean one, and then the contrast becomes obvious. So, with the new team, starting with Joltin' Jen in the Press Room, they're not wasting time criticizing the last crew so much as just hunkering down and putting their own thing into motion. And, again, the contrast (esp. after 4 years of Bozo's Big Top) is astounding and, like that drink of fresh water, refreshing.

Yeah, Biden wasn't my guy for the primary but in the general EFF YEAH I was going to vote for him, and my hand wasn't anywhere near my nose either.

Biden was the perfect person for right now. While Biden is too conservative for what I think this country needs to do to attack our root problems of campaign finance reform and the media propaganda, for this moment it is more important to give the country a President that they know is steady, experienced, and centrist. The Republicans get no where in painting him as a radical which is their main attack on our Party. Biden is calm and measured and Americans know him well. He knows the leadership of both Parties very well. He knows how Congress and government really operates and can use his long term relationships to our advantage.

The times call for a President that knows how things are supposed to run. As important is that the rest of the world knows him and will feel reassured that America’s insanity was temporary and that our relationship with our allies can be counted on again.

Lastly, I am not sure we would have won if we had elected someone else that may have liked more for their more liberal policies. I want to be clear, we need to make some big changes in this country to fix some serious institutional problems that are exacerbating the wealth gap, threatening our social safety net, and ruining our environment. Biden will advance these issues as well, just not as far and fast as I would like. A measured approach right now makes more sense and Biden will do that. I can be patient as I believe that is what we need at this moment in time.

Looking back on our 2020 field of candidates, in a nut shell I can boil my beliefs down to "Bernie Sanders may have stood strongest for the policies that would benefit America most at this juncture in our history, but Joe Biden is the President that America absolutely needs in office today." Though I knew that the platform that Joe Biden ran on during the primaries would be a huge advance for America, I didn't give Biden nearly as much credit as he deserves for what he has shown a strong willingness to fight for. He is playing this grand symphony for the benefit and enjoyments of the common folk.
I too was concerned that Biden was tuning his instruments for the banker and capitalist classes, at times his politics seemed bent in that direction.

But now Biden's footsteps appear somewhat cautious but very determined,.. unlike his immediate predecessor in the Oval Office ,.. Joe is charting out a course to build a proud legacy with the concern for the common people in mind.

It is early in the game,... but the pages of history will speak far more kindly to Biden, than when mention is made of Trump.

What a refreshing transition of American political power, from all of that - to finally this, with standing of the bloody noses and bruises we suffered along the way.
