(6,857 posts)but i don't believe that's going to happen with these scofflaws, so it's moot.
Incidentally, second and subsequent offenses are $10,000.00 each.

(90 posts)They'll quickly make that up in "donations" from lobbyists and supporters. Don't be surprised to see some sort of GoFundMe page, or donations from a PAC. These politicians will wear it as a badge of honor that they defied the Speaker of the House.

(302 posts)They will lose. Congress sets the rules for the Capital just like a management company can set rules for its own building for its tenants. Nancy passed the rule within the rules.
Suck it, assholes. Your ammo-sexual tendencies are keeping you from doing something/anything productive.

They are going to get good at padding the expense account.
And the fine increases to $10k for the second offense. Lauren Bang Bang Barbie Boebert (R-Gun Nuts R' Us) is for sure one of them. I THINK Chip Roy (R-NRA) is also one of them. I wouldnt be surprised if Marjorie Taylor Gangrene (Q-Ball) was also involved.

(9,986 posts)Why should Democratic members of Congress, especially Pelosi and the Squad, have to work beside people who have said they want them dead, knowing those same people are carrying guns and could actually kill them. Not that I think they would, but its a form of intimidation that should not be allowed.

They have already demonstrated that they can't be trusted, due to their support for violence.

(34,108 posts)Not meeeeee. Way to go Nancy, treat them like you would a 3 year old with his hand in the center of a cake you just decorated. They know better but they just think they are special and, "What are you going to do about it, huh?" Now they know, fine them for not wearing masks or even not wearing them appropriately. A civil society does not regard your silly "not meeeeees" as important when you risk the others around you. Make them pay and behave like real grown ups. Such special people they are.

(1,850 posts)Republican congressmen Louie Gohmert and Andrew Clyde fined $5,000 each for refusing to go through a new metal detector in the Capitol

Gohmert was and will be a regular offender to the rule. Others will abide, until the day they stage a protest and carry in their firearms, whoever's got one. If and when that happens, all the Dems should walk out, which would remove a quorum so no votes could take place.
The GQP rep for my district carries, and I hope they are able to screen him adequately as he uses a wheelchair, which could be used to mask a firearm. I've been worried about him sneaking in a weapon that way; and also concerned as the Dem reps are, that so many support tRump, guns, violence and intimidation.

(13,869 posts)If he is telling the truth - and that is a big IF - he says that he complied with the procedure and went through the detector. later, before he was scheduled to speak, he left the chamber to go to the bathroom. He says he wasn't asked to come back through the detector, but returned to the floor.

(5,395 posts)can those miscreants who do manage to enter with weapons, be placed in bullet proof cages for the duration of their stay in the chamber? Hell, make it soundproof too! Adult version of the child's 'naughty corner'!
Bullet proof, no, not to keep bullets out, but to keep any 'accidental' discharge in. Should make a lot of noise, in an enclosed space!

(2,336 posts)especially for someone wealthy. I prefer the immediate removal from pay and then an escalating scale, every time, fines double. So do it once, $5k, twice $10k, three times $20, etc. Maybe that'd help?
It sickens me the way they act so juvenile. How are young people supposed to learn how to act when our elected officials are like 2nd graders, and not well behaved 2nd graders either. (I love that age, it's the best).
