....those at the bottom of the stairway, then JOGGED up the steps, turned and saluted again, then waved to everyone.
Just seeing that got to me.

Jogging up the stairs, after weeks and months of hard work.
I am glad he is going home to see his kids and grandkids.
Will be a good way for him to relax and recharge.

(28,333 posts)Since you didn't get an answer.
Too many men don't realize the assumptions that jump into their heads . . . . that's the sexism. You don't fix it by what you say afterwards. You fix it by introspection and acknowledgment, followed by a change in thought, that leads to a change in behavior.

Even fully masked there needs to be distancing. No food or drink since the masks are off when you do.
My sister an ex ICU nurse pulls this shit...tells me she distances when she goes to see her grandchildren then sends me pics holding the 18 month old with her mask under her chin.

(53,410 posts)in the best way we can. As far as Presidents go, money should not be an issue. Security and safety are. We wouldnt have lost Kennedy if he had been protected the way Presidents are now. Of course, Im aware that his assassination is what lead to the way Presidents are protected now.

(28,075 posts)Civilians are not suppose to salute. Eisenhower did not salute when he was president. It all started with Reagan playing a part. I was hoping Biden would put an end to it.
Not important, just a pet peeve.
George II
(67,782 posts)The regulation reads:
Civilian personnel, to include civilian guards, are not required to render the hand salute to military personnel or other civilian personnel.
Salutes are not required to be rendered or returned when the senior or subordinate, or both are in civilian attire.

I'll take Ike as the expert on this. But, again, it is just a peeve of mine I know its not a real issue.

(12,374 posts)I googled it and it indeed was Reagan who started doing that. It probably wont change though because then everyone will start accusing whom ever changes it as being unpatriotic or some such nonsense.

(61,690 posts)for the airport in Wilmington. I think this is the Vice President's usual plane. I'm looking forward to Biden getting his first trip on the bigger, rigged out aircraft.
I realize the designation of AF1 is for any airplane the president is on.

seeing him getting on the plane seemed a bit surreal.
(probably too many vids of drumph lumbering onto AF1 over 4 years tho I watched him as little as possible!)

(16,348 posts)I love this! I had almost fotprgotten what "presidential" looks like, and it's great to be reminded.
Unfortunately, I caught myself wincing inwardly when he flashed "thumbs up," and I HATE that I did.
It was completely involuntary. That's one of Chump's favorite gestures, and like a lot of other things, it is now unconsciously associated in my mind with him. And I didn't even realize it until I saw Joe do it!
I am definitely suffering from PTSD (Post Trump Stress Disorder). I hate it, but I know the only cure for it is time. I hate how Chump has ruined, or at least tainted, so many things for me, even a simple gesture like 👍.
Sorry to rain on anyone's parade. This WAS a great moment and a great thing to watch, despite my personal neuroses!
