General Discussion

... their primary newspaper, perhaps their only newspaper, is the Rome News-Tribune.
I was thinking that it might be interesting to watch what the people who sent her to Washington think about her.
So far I've found House Votes to Remove Majorie Taylor Greene from Committees and Rep. Greene says 'morons' in both parties voted to boot her from committees, which are basically unbiased factual reports, but I haven't found any opinion article yet. Perhaps others here would like to do some searching.

"I am amazed, but not surprised, that we have citizens in our community that still support Marjorie Taylor Greene. I was a lifelong Republican until Jan. 6, but if Marjorie Greene is a true Republican I under no circumstances want to be identified as ever being one."
"Its not enough that Marjorie Taylor Greene, Trump and others have ruined and damaged our Republican Party, now our 14th District will get nothing because of her unhinged, irrational behavior and lies. Worse yet, she doesnt have the conviction in her fantasies to stand by them when reality hits."

(4,089 posts)DEAR EDITOR: (Rome News Tribune)
To me there are big questions that the leaders of this city should be asking themselves. To me they are questions that deserve answering and need to be addressed right away.
Question 1: How much will Rome associate itself with Marjorie Greene, our new 14th district congresswoman? Question 2: Is it fair for her to call Rome her home and we claim her? Question 3: Do you think Rome will survive her for the next two years as we recruit new companies and industries through our development authorities, because our authorities recruit nationally?
Tough or not so tough questions.

(10,864 posts)the treatment of Trump (without mentioning his name)...saying that he would return. I'm gobsmacked. How can you possibly put someone like Trump at that level of significance. I honestly think that religion and Trumpism are closely related when it comes to legitimacy. Maybe that is the attraction.
Anyway, I can see how MTG got elected - I hope they are all very proud of themselves.

Marcus Flowers, a former Army sergeant and defense contractor from Bremen, said he has filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to explore his candidacy for the seat.

(8,090 posts)I doubt very seriously it will go Dem, but it could go back to "sane" Republican. Klan of Greene Gables beat the incumbent (neurosurgeon, I think) in the primary. She ran on Trump, ANTIFA, and soshulism... wonder how most of her voters feel now. I'd love to see Corporate America lay down the law, kind of like it did over NC's Gov. McCrory and "gay bathrooms."

On Nathan Bedford Forrest and Marjorie Taylor Greene
Jan 30, 2021
The City of Rome recently removed a statue of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest from a prominent place at Myrtle Hill Cemetery. In light of social issues that have swept the nation in recent months, the statue and others like it have become points of contention.
They have become a physical thing which continue to breed division.
We believe the statues removal from Myrtle Hill Cemetery was the right decision by the city. We recognize, more than most, the importance of preserving history and of educating the community. The city is not trying to erase history with this statues removal.
The decision to move ahead was one of a community government which values its entire constituency rather than the voices of discontent that can often be heard the loudest.
Many of these statues were erected during the Jim Crow era and are a tangible reminder of the oppression and systematic racism of the time. Unfortunately we believe that at the time they were erected, that was the intention of many to illustrate for all to see, the idea of better than and less than.
The history behind this particular statue, and others like it, does not exist in stone. It exists in our collective consciousness. So if history is what you truly would like to preserve, that can be found in our libraries, our schools, our museums and our cultural centers. If history and its preservation is what TRULY concerns you, then there are many avenues through which to educate yourself and your children about our past.
