back the House just from redistricting after the 2020 census, because they control states that could pick up seats etc.
We CAN'T let them take back the HOUSE before the 2024 election because they could use (and would certainly try if they could use) extra-constitutional means to take the presidency.
Good discussion of this here in the middle block and what Dems can do about it.
One thing is to get rid of the filibuster and pass the John Lewis voting rights act.
But the main thing is we can't rest now.

(45,806 posts)support, but the disgust with DT by relatively normal people is growing more each day & that includes many Repubs who have just had enough. I'm not saying it will be easy. We still have to win over those former Pubs, but if we can show them we support a lot of things they used to support, & we're not nearly the radical Party they've always been told, I think we can not only hold the Housse & Senate, but gain back a lot of the seats we lost in 2020.

(16,006 posts)I have no doubt the repugs will do it just to try to make history and take the double impeachment away from trump as the only. Repugs play dirty.

(10,476 posts)over who is a "real" (i.e. a Trump fondler) conservative and who is a deep-state sellout in their primaries. If a Deep-stater emerges, the Trumpies will hate em and sit out.
If the Trumpie wins, we may see a stray Marjorie/Boebert clone win a red district, but the others in moderate/purple districts won't stand a chance in the general.

(15,669 posts)In order to deliver on Bidens promises, the filibuster has to die- there is no other way.
If the filibuster survives, nothing besides COVID relief will pass, except possibly a green jobs bill in reconciliation next year (only one reconciliation bill per year), and that may be too late to impact the 2022 midterms.
Bottom line: Manchin and Sinema will determine if the Dems keep or lose their majority in the house, and whether Joe Biden will be a historic, FDR-level president or not.

(13,779 posts)It was "all hands on deck" for the 2020 and Jan 5 elections. It won't be any different next time.
Rest up and "fasten your seatbelts. It's going to be a bumpy ride."

(8,337 posts)Followed with democrats gaining seats. Last redistricting was far worse than this one, so if we are on our top game, I could see is us holding the line.
