ELBERTON, Georgia -- A small Georgia city was still in shock Friday, days after state health workers raided the busiest medical clinic in the county and seized its Covid-19 vaccine supply because staffers had given doses to teachers.
Some 470 shots of the Pfizer vaccine were confiscated from the Medical Center of Elberton, a private clinic that had been the largest provider of vaccinations in Elbert County, leaving behind just enough medicine to guarantee second doses to people who have already been inoculated.
"Everything that we had tried to do up until now to vaccinate our county was just laid to waste," Dr. Jonathan Poon, who works at the clinic, told NBC News.
In addition, the George Department of Public Health said it would not be providing any more vaccines to the medical center for the next six months until July 27.

(89,247 posts)expected to get vaccines don't do it so they could end up going to waste. So unless there are issues with those those in the first phase having difficulty getting it then this just seems exteme.

(21,745 posts)I guess once they are thawed, they have to be used.
Some people who had appointments didn't show, so they had thawed doses on hand.
She wasn't expecting it, but the pharmacist went around the store offering the shots to whoever wanted one.
She is a teacher, so I am glad she is on the road to protection.

(13,490 posts)that paragraph showed GA's reasoning. Was sharing it. It's not my opinion. I believe that they should be vaccinating everybody they can and that teachers should be moved up to a higher category in GA.

(8,201 posts)Teachers had been considered essential workers into December, then they weren't. They had no idea they were violating state policy.
It's all explained in the OP's link.

If we are going to get kids back to school, teachers must be vaccinated.

(32,821 posts)Weve been told we dont need vaccines because kids dont get covid at school. So many people have been sacrificed. Its physically sickening to me everyday. It also no longer matters if youre immunocompromised and at risk for severe illness.

They should be in 1b for sure.

(58,785 posts)and the recommendations the world-class epidemiologists at the CDC make are based on real information on how to stop the the pandemic quickest and save the most lives.
A close family member is a teacher and just got over Covid. Poor thing almost never comes down with even a mild cold, and this was an unfortunate way of being brought up to speed on what being sick is.

(46,913 posts)As much as I respect the new CDC team, when they say something that doesn't line up with the science they themselves have talked about, or doesn't make sense, I am going to question it.

(58,785 posts)The scam is to delude them into believing they're seeking truth, while they're actually following planted links to untruths.
But, so far as they know, their job is to research on line, applying their critical thinking skills. When they find "something that doesn't line up with" something else, they "question it."
And thus they come to believe they themselves are the real experts and learn to distrust the supposed experts who say something they think doesn't line up. A trap.
And everyone else also has a similar delusional trap to fall into. Reading a few articles and trading opinions on social media not only doesn't make anyone an expert, but even imagining he could be qualified to disagree with the real thing indicates huge ignorance of what expertise is.

(32,821 posts)Our ICU has had 0% ICU since November. We are at only at 6% as of today. But the dumb fucks here are all having super bowl parties so that will turn bad again soon.
The governor opened 2 vaccine super centers one in northern and one in Southern California even though Fresno is 3rd poorest city in America per capita. Still getting only 8,000 doses a week for more than 2 million people. Supposedly that is equity. 🤷?♀️
Going to work everyday knowing I am risking myself and my husband is taking its toll after 9 months.

(25,962 posts)for six months just deprives the surrounding community of a needed medical resource. All they had to do was say, "stop giving the vaccine to anyone other than [clarification of Phase 1A+]."
Early on, Poon said, they invested $7,000 out of their own pockets on an expensive freezer capable of storing the vaccines because they wanted to be part of pandemic solution.
"We were humble," he said. "We did not expect a pat on the back. We thought that this was part of the plan."

I'd be hesitant, though, to use a clinic that didn't keep informed on basic public health information. How, as an official vaccination center, they avoided knowing who they were to vaccinate is a bit of a mystery. we did; it's in the newspaper.
Competence and due diligence in physicians are critically important. Maybe this clinic shouldn't have been selected over others in the first place?

The reason we have a logistics & execution problem in vaccinations is that these morons never developed a plan, despite what was claimed in that self-serving interview Slaoui gave to Science magazine. (The former head of warp speed)

(59 posts)I am so glad this happened - maybe it will send a message to those who aren't following guidelines in other states.
Each state is handling the distribution differently. I live right on the border of two states with vastly different plans. One is doing it by ages, the other is doing "essential workers." The amount of uproar by teachers in the "ages" state is crazy because they see teachers 10 miles away getting a vaccine.
I agree with the age distribution, because it's easy to prove an age with state ID. People have been putting the vaccination sites, many of which are run by volunteers, into a bad spot. Anyone can show up and claim they are eligible. It's too easy to make up some credentiai and show up.
