it was mailed today. IRS deposited the money in the wrong account. It took that bank forever to return the money to IRS. Good grief. I am 79 and live on social security......I am one of those people that REALLY need that money.

(892 posts)I am so happy that you finally got your stimulus money. My husband and I are in our 60s and were supposed to have had our stimulus money direct-deposited into our checking account on January 6th. We have never received the money. I totally know what you mean when you say that you really needed the money.....we are in the same boat.
If you dont mind sharing, how did they determine that they had deposited your money into an incorrect account? We have wondered if that is what happened to our money but we cannot find any information about how to find out if that happened.
Again, it makes me feel wonderful to know that you finally did get your stimulus money! I am really happy for you.

(892 posts)I appreciate your help.
Ive been trying to track down mine and learned a few tricks.
You can look at your transcript/tax record on the IRS website but you have to create an account which is a bit of a pain in the butt. It takes about 10 minutes and they need a credit/debit card number to verify your identity. Google IRS transcript to get to the correct irs.gov page and follow the links for Get Transcript Online. When it asks for a customer number, you can leave that part blank. Look at the the transcript for 2020.
This is what mine looks like, with both the first and second stimulus listed. The first stimulus was Direct Deposited, they are mailing the second one (ugh- Due to TurboTax prepaid VISA snafu):
People who had theirs returned because it was sent to a closed account have more entries where the amount is credited and deducted a second time. Ive seen pics on Reddit.
Anyhoo, it looks like mine was processed on the 6th and mailed on the 18th? The Get My Payment tool just says its scheduled to be mailed on 1/6. At least I have some proof it was issued. Still waiting for it to arrive, but who knows with the mail delivery times all screwed up! Thanks, Dejoy. Ugh.
I hope this helps! Someone also posted tips for getting through to a live operator on the phone at the IRS and what to say to get them to look up your stimulus info (which they wont do if you just ask wheres my check?)

(4,606 posts)That is excellent news!
Still waiting on mine. According to my IRS transcript, it was issued on 1/6. Ive been watching a Reddit forum about the checks, and it seems the IRS was distributing/mailing them by geographic region? People in the same state reported getting them in the mail on the same day, and it happened several different times with various states. Not too many reports from my state of Virginia, except a few in southern VA last week. I really need the money and hope it gets here soon.

(4,606 posts)Its a paper check, figured Id be getting a card. Who knows? Just glad its finally here!
ETA: Now thats finally over, Im going to update my IRS account with my checking account number so the next one can be direct deposited. I was just being overly cautious when I opted for the prepaid card for the first stimulus. What a mess this has all been!

For reasons I don't fully understand, I have gotten my stimulus checks in the very first week they were issued. But I'm not the only person here who files electronically, who has a checking account to either send money to the IRS or get refunds from them. Different things in different years.
It should be as easy for everyone else as it is for me.

I would think a friend would be glad to take you to the bank to get your money.
I wanted cash so I had to go to the bank to get mine, too.

(186 posts)I got the first one this spring, but then i had to close my bank acct this fall,
where they attempted to send the second one, no check or anything yet.
No idea how I'm supposed to get the 600 or the additional 1400
assuming that even passes in the end.
