First, I do mean the 15 bucks in the reconciliation bill. Beginning ASAP. Not the already proposed over years.
If everyone was paid at least that much, we increase their purchasing power immensely immediately. Those people will use the money to survive. That alone will pump a gush-load of cash directly into the economy. You don't need to be an economist to see how that helps as quickly as can be done, in the same precious few months ahead we need to end the pandemic.
It also helps end the pandemic, because many will not have to work as much, limiting the amount of contact time they might become infected or spread infections to the most vulnerable.
At the same time many workers will have to work less, it will entice more experienced healthcare workers back into the workforce where we need them the most.
Raising the minimum wage to 15 bucks immediately will work at least as fast as anything else to simulate the economy now. Which is exactly why, more than any other proposal, it needs to be the primary reason for the reconciliation bill. Not a reason to drop the best solution we have to today's problems.
As for Manchin and others, that is simply a test of our leader's well known skills to convince others. I'm sure he can do it. Now, more than ever we need Joe to employ those precious skills we elected him to use.
Then in 2022, those workers will remember our fight. We will not only hold both branches of Congress, but win many state houses and all down the line. Remember what almost every pundit repeats a million times every election; "Americans want Congress to get something done."
Finally, I don't see any reason to listen to any appeals for unity or listening to any "parliamentarian rules" that are not in the Constitution."
Well then if the voters demand action now lets give it to them, damn it!

I'm despondent about both.
But, thanks for your thumbs up!

(47,028 posts)I keep getting smacked down too.
I hope that once we start getting help from Biden and the congress, people will understand that government can be of use to the people. And the ridiculous parliamentary rules are man made.
Not handed down by God. The rules need to work for the people.
The rules are not meant to be worshiped and written in cement.
The rules should have flexibility to help Americans in a crisis.

(8,543 posts)Odds are very high that it gets removed due to the Byrd Rule.
It's unlikely to get passed as part of a normal bill as well — as long as a cloture vote requires 60 votes.
Unfortunately, this may have to be done at the state level in the current political climate.
We are long overdue for an increase just to keep pace with inflation.
