Never been attracted to sports so not watching any games in this house. Watch bits and pieces of the Olympics as a civic duty, but not much else. We're thinking about a movie marathon like the Hobbit or Aliens, with a coffee table smorgasbord.
Maybe a hot cheesy fondue pot and couple of small Charcuterie Boards using whatever goodies are on hand. The mister wants cocktail shrimp and fried shrimp and French fries to serve with a replay of Forrest Gump.
I'm not alone, so what do the rest of you non sporting folks plan on doing, if anything?

(4,075 posts)I watch during the Super Bowl because the commercials are awesome I move around and do things during the game play,,,, I was raised in a "foot ball" family so it seems wrong somehow not to have it on

Bars are all mostly shut down here or have outside seating now

That was unusual. And funny!

(17,538 posts)I care nothing about professional "sports." In the past, I used to follow a couple of college football teams, but I did not watch a game this year. I thought it was insane to play contact sports during a contagious pandemic.

(9,265 posts)Watched the Super Bowl 3 years ago when the Eagles won. Otherwise meh. We used to go out to dinner that evening as restaurants were pretty empty, but not this year ☹️. Think Ill make a nice dinner and watch the rest of The Crown (4 episodes to go).

I don't care for the game, I'm only forced to pay for the stadium

Sports do not manage my mind and mass mob-mentality is as unbecoming in sports as in insurrections.

The ONLY professional sports I watch is tennis. Fortunately, the rest of my family now is uninterested in any TV sports watching, even tennis does not interest them. When we used to go to our college games, it was fun.

(82,849 posts)Or Lord of the Rings. I got the Alien four pack blu-ray on some really good deal a couple of years ago, and discovered that I've become kind of a wuss over the years. It was too intense. I should offer it on the Buy Nothing website.
I used to follow football, and was a Kansas City Chiefs fan for about 50 years. Then I saw that study of post-mortem examinations of player brains. All but one of them (out of more than 100) showed signs of CTE, and it occurred to me that I was watching young men grind up their brains for my entertainment. I couldn't get away from that, and I stopped watching all at once. Naturally, as soon as I did that, Kansas City goes to the Super Bowl two years in a row. Still not watching, though.

(15,805 posts)In the prime of their lives selling away the health and futures for fame and fortune. They think they're invincible. There is no ombudsman in their corner to advise them of the risk.
The multi billion $ sports industry doesn't care about these young, impressionable players, they keep grinding them down and tossing them out when they can't keep up. They certainly could do a lot to reduce the risks and make games safer, but the rabid fans want more brutal violence, not less.

(4,190 posts)my loss of interest in football directly correlates to our oldest daughter getting married in November a few years ago, so I was too busy to watch any football. I was mainly a huge baseball fan my whole life, but after what MLB did to the Astros I can't be bothered anymore, they completely lost me.
I do like soccer and rugby but now other hobbies and interests stop me from spending quality weekend time sitting in front of the tv!
I hope people that enjoy the Super Bowl and everything around it and about it have a great time tomorrow, but I'll be doing some yard work, playing my new guitar that's coming today, and working on getting better at power carving. So I have a pretty full day planned.
on thinking about it, we usually do get caught up in the Olympics and rarely miss figure skating in general when it's on even in on Olympic years, and gymnastics are always entertaining.

(34,136 posts)That was put aside in 2011. It will take another month or so to finish since I can only manage an hour or two a day.
I'll be watching movies or something - maybe the Harry Potter movies.

(15,412 posts)like you, I watch some of the Olympics and my mom was a huge fan of the Kentucky Derby, calling us to make sure we knew the time etc. I suspect it was because it only lasts 4.5 minutes which is my attention span for sports.
We have no plans.

You might want to check out what they do at every Iowa football game for the kids in the children hospital that are watching the games from their rooms. Everyone in the stadium both teams and all turn and wave to the kids. Brings tears to my eyes every time
And yeah everyone knows there's more to life than football
