Not to be nitpicky, but the House impeaches and the Senate convicts (or not). The Velveteen Ocelot Feb 2021 #6

Federal judges are appointed for life, and can be removed only by impeachment (same process as for a president).

There are judges in dc that can over ride local federal judges and remand her to custody or change the terms of her freedom.

This has been done in other cases. Prosecutors have to request it, and a hearing held. The decision was just handed down, so unless she is leaving this weekend there is time to reverse it.

Judeges can be disciplined as well, though I'm not sure in this case he violated any ethical or legal standards. Just violated common sense.

Not sure why they didn't object, but that did give the judge plenty of room to rule as he did.

The fact that a federal judge was appointed by a previous president and we don't like their rulings is not grounds for removal.

We don't like this ruling, but the judge was fully within his discretion to make it. There are no grounds to remove him.

On Friday, Judge Trevor N. McFadden of the DC District Court granted her request. McFadden, a Trump appointee, noted that the Justice Department did not oppose Cudd's request to visit Mexico....

The Justice Department didn't try to keep her in jail before trial, an aggressive move prosecutors reserved for the handful of riot-related defendants accused of violent crimes and conspiracies.

Our DOJ is going after the serious threats, but they are swamped and understaffed. And demoralized after 45 and Barr. And without strong leadership. And the rethugs have and will obstruct and delay Garland's taking charge as much as they can. But once Garland is confirmed, he will kick ass. I expect him to issue guidance and opposition to anyone involved being able to leave the country, maybe pull their passports.

Hope they pull her off the plane after she's boarded and expects to take off.

I believe our system of judicial appointments is better the way it is now, separate from the craziness of partisan politics. The only possible improvement - and it's debatable - would be to consider the SCOTUS appointments for 10 year terms (renewable after 10 years) rather than for LIFE.
