a dozen or so in an hour, that would be appreciated.

(5,930 posts)In fifteen years on DU, I've never before used the "Hide", "Trash" or "Ignore" features on any group or individual that disagrees with me, no matter how mightily I may be vexed by them.
I made an exception in this case because I really like and enjoy the Music Appreciation forum, and so I'm not hiding it out of spite or resentment. The Hide feature is giving me the ability to visit, read and listen when I want to, without asking the folks in the group to change their ways.

Mister Ed
(5,930 posts)...the posts should probably be removed to the appropriate forum, in the same way that, for example, posts that don't fit the criteria for the Latest Braking News forum are moved to the appropriate place.
And, of course, the posters should be encouraged to start such threads in Music Appreciation or Lounge instead.

(15,124 posts)understand being an enthusiastic fan, but some music enthusiasts---not sport fans or cat lovers or poets---seem to presume that everyone should share their passion.

Sometimes it seems, though, that the music posts happen faster than one can listen to the previous post.

(65,013 posts)A ridiculous request of those posting in the appropriate group.
If you think group posts shouldn't be on the latest page, request a change with EarlG.
Those posters are doing nothing wrong.

(15,124 posts)anything wrong; just that I would rather not have to sort through such posts.
Maybe the fault is mine. I usually read "latest posts", but may need to move to some other forum. "General Discussion"?

There are two ways to manage the Latest page which will help you out here.
The first is for you to go into the Music Appreciation group and click the "Trash this group" button found near the top of the page. This will remove the group from your view on the Latest page. You will not see posts from that group appear on the Latest page again (unless you go to My Account > Trash Can and restore it manually).
The second option is broader, but you don't even need to be logged in to use it. Look for the second drop-down menu in the black bar near the top of the Latest page, which is "Relevance" and should be set to "Show All (default)" -- change it to "Political". Now ONLY forums which are designated "Political" will appear on the Latest page. This will remove all non-political forums and groups from the Latest page. It's a broad action, but it's easy to switch back and forth using that drop-down.
If you like the Music Appreciation group but just don't want to see all of its threads on the Latest page, a power user option is to Trash the group, but also Subscribe to it. Doing that will create a shortcut to the group in your left-column navigation, but you won't see all of its threads on the Latest page.
(Edited to add: the black filter bar on the Latest page does not appear on the mobile version of the site, currently you can only set it on the desktop version.)

(3,528 posts)Except after being asked to moderate. It kicks you there after you vote. I dont get anything out of that forum; being a latest post means there arent any replies yet, and for me the OP is only the start to any interesting thread; I want to see opinions, discussions and even heated arguments.
My DU use is pretty pedestrian. I check out the front page, then I go into Forums&Groups to see if theres any latest breaking news, and finally scan through general discussion to see what people are commenting on. I hardly ever see these listen to/check this out threads.
My 2 cents...

(57,081 posts)... and all those non-sequitur OPs that have an "inside" reference and no post body. Or how about the same article that shows up in LBN, Top News, Trending, or all those events that get posted about over and over and over (by different posters) in GD?

Because you don't want to? Got it.
Well, aren't I red faced. I see the boss has already replied with a solution.

(7,715 posts)Just ignore them.
There are tons of good songs being posted. I'm glad there's a group like this on DU. I thought I was fairly eclectic in my music tastes, but the songs here make me realize how limited my musical world has been.
Plus we don't have outrages by the second as we did during Trump's reign of error and terror, so we all have a lot more time on our hands to do fun stuff!
Finally, I don't think there's an excessive posting limitation on DU (willing to be corrected if wrong).
Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks (from a song that was posted a couple of days ago on Music Appreciation!)

(7,715 posts)There was another OP about this early this morning: https://www.democraticunderground.com/100215066004
And I totally agree with you: I suspect my political postings will go down (hopefully!) as things start righting themselves under President Biden and a D-controlled Congress.

(7,233 posts)Posts slip down the page quite quickly anyway as the forum's quite busy nowadays, so the less off topic clutter, the better. They belong in one of the music groups or the Lounge.
I've seen a couple of GD music posts get locked by the hosts, but not consistently or particularly quickly.

Because I am a star member I can ignore any poster I want to and also Remove words or forums
I had to remove Trump as a word for a while too much The primary forum nasty was not for me
My ignore list is large
If I want to do an overall check on what du is morphing in to I can log out and scroll
Thats important to do occasionally in my opinion on any sites I post at and with posters I follow

(146,288 posts)If you don't like seeing them, you can fix that right away, using the tools available to you on DU.
You do not like seeing lots and lots of music posts. Others, no doubt think they are a wonderful thing.
DU is what DU is. It allows such posts, because some of its members like them.
I suppose most are in the DU Lounge. I don't know, because I don't visit that forum, but that's my guess.
You can block that forum, you know.
Yes, those posts will show up in the Latest Threads list still. I don't use that page on DU, personally. Instead, I go directly to the thread lists for GD and LBN. The most active posts will be near the top of the list. That's what interests me, so that's how I use DU.
You don't like Music posts. You are annoyed that you see them. However, DU is not set up just to please you. It has many users who have other priorities than you have. DU also offers many different ways for its users to access, view, and use the site. You can customize your own view of DU.
As an alternative, I suppose you could also start your own forum on the Internet and set any rules you choose for it. DU has an owner. I like DU as it is. I adjust my own experience here to suit my own interests. You can do the same thing.

(7,263 posts)As far as Latest Threads, I never use it at all.
I browse the Front Page 80% of the time. Catch the headlines and any video clips that catch my eye. And the 'toons'.
Then I'll browse the latest in the GD page.
Maybe check out the Greatest Page next.
Blue Moon check out the lounge which is funny since when I joined back in '04 that is where I hung out for a long long time, and ignored GD. Guess I've grown up lol.
Only if a op from another forum appears on the Front page do I look at it.
I love music, and have occasionally posted a music clip as a response in an OP. Think I may have posted a celebratory music post on Nov 7 in GD, because I was so happy and music is my way of celebrating.
I use the ignore function on users and trash threads too - I want my DU experience to be fun, not a chore or a constant fight fest.
This is what I love about DU - I can control what I see without putting my wishes on everyone else. It is so flexible in that regard. It's like a smorgasbord!
