They did loop back to Flynn again and again. I’ll reserve opinion on the (because I’m not going to do what the Qrazypants followers do) veracity of that but it really is fascinating. The originators and perpetrators really are a combination of people. And it does look like it took on a life of its own and attracted all kinds of grifters who keep it spinning for their own purposes. Those people who need it to be real are pitiful at best. They are addicted to it. Beats just living like a regular, working, dreaming, sometimes failing human being.

that Flynn is Q, or that Q "himself" actually exists. BUT, having watched the Vice 3part special on the conspiracy, I think Flynn is now the base of QANON. I think Russia got hold of the conspiracy and turned it to their own ends, first by giving the conspirators a platform (8kun) after Reddit dissolved theirs, and then by inserting their influence into the White House in the form of Flynn, who was a willing co-conspirator. At that point it became a White House based psyops operation. It wasn't difficult for Flynn to convince the egomaniacal and narcissistic president that he was Q's messiah.

From 2015 until 4Chan started cracking down on such things, people on the /pol board were throwing shit at the wall, seeing what would stick with the “normies,” and QAnon was the one that stuck. It was then driven at first by brigades of jaded, nihilistic memers who just want to watch the world burn, and then they were joined by grifters who discovered they could make a quick buck off social media algorithms and merchandising. There are a few points when the Q account could have changed hands, including when the conspiracy moved from 4Chan to 8Chan, but at its inception, it was all for the lulz—the only people would would use a phrase like “this is not a LARP” were millennials or zoomers who were completely drenched in the Chan culture of the last decade.
