(18,402 posts)what else do you want them to do? Beat their heads against the wall and ignore everything else?
Its clear there will not be 17 Republican votes, no matter what. The impeachment is to convince the public, and make the whole thing recorded for history and all posterity to judge.
So yeah, do it and move on ... theres no other choice, really.

(61,910 posts)Maybe pundits are ready, politicians are ready. But Democratic voters?
None that I know. Trump needs to pay, or the utility of laws become obsolete.

(7,654 posts)there aren't enough to convict.
So are you really sure you want to make that absolute of a claim that the utility of laws becomes obsolete because a political process didn't work?

(2,010 posts)I'd venture to say no one here is ready to move on. And according to polls, Dems not on DU feel the same, as do some non-dems.
What I am seeing, here and other places, is many Dems being discouraged and disbelieving about a conviction. I am not one of them. I think it could happen, after the evidence and public opinion has been made known. Not likely, but possible.
I don't like to see comments that say rethugs won't vote to convict. That's negative thinking.
Call me an infernal optimist! It ain't over til it's over.
Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
