For one, I have a nostalgic sort of feeling for J&J from my childhood and it's ubiquity.
J&J immunized all their employees against Smallpox in 1910, over half of them women
J&J produced masks to fight the 1918 Flu
J&J created Band-Aids
J&J retained all employees during WW2, even increased wages
J&J promised all employees who fought in WW2 they'd have a job when they returned home
And the J&J COVID-19 vaccine just may be the vaccine that saves the world... all four corners.

(53,560 posts)This isn't the Johnson & Johnson of my youth, but I do like the idea of a vaccine that's only one shot.

(15,675 posts)Because it was partially funded by Dolly Parton and because of that the main side-effect when injected is you taste freshly-made sugar cookies. But right now I'm waiting on my second Pfizer.

(27,715 posts)I faithfully get a flu shot every September. For many years n two years ago, I came down with Influenza A..never so sick in my life. I try to keep facts n horror stories separate but Im thinking were all gonna have to get a yearly shot for Covid as they just keep finding new side problems.

(19,121 posts)I just got the first Pfizer shot last week and an appointment for the next shot was set up automatically.
They say that protection doesn't kick in for the first two weeks and isn't complete until a week after the second shot.
One shot will certainly be better for a lot of people though and I also have respect for J&J.

(13,849 posts)The reports of the kickback when that second vaccine hits are intimidating.
And I have no desire to go somewhere to a large central location and wait and wait. Sounds like a super spreader event for people who do not have access to cars in which to drive through, and who rely on public transportation.

(7,417 posts)Why did we do that? The rollout of the vaccine to the elderly has been absolutely asinine.
Grasswire2
(13,849 posts)Disgusting classism and ignorance on display by health providers and state agencies.
Seriously, I do not see any advocacy for safe vaccinations for those who have mobility issues or age issues and do not have access to a car.
And that is seriously discriminatory.

(17,760 posts)They need to keep working on the micro needles technology. Its real and it would solve SO much of the issue in getting vaccines administered en masse.
OregonBlue
(8,240 posts)all. The new micro needles are amazing. My last flue shot was painless as well. I used to be a needlephobe but not now.
hamsterjill
(17,760 posts)Needles are a trigger for me. Its not really the pain; its the fear of the needle. I have vasovagel syncope and either puke or faint.
The micro needle technology truly IS amazing. Vaccines could be self-administered. It would be an absolute game changer for me and I sincerely hope that investments are made in the technology and that it comes to the forefront very soon as a standard. Could certainly be a part of a tele-health future.
