The party you support. Many dems were outraged when Trump and Bush did it, while republicans were outraged when Obama and Clinton did it.

But US Attorneys are always treated a little differently because of the nature of their work. Administrations usually take a little time to assess what the cases they're working on and make sure there's a smooth transition and sometimes keep them on longer to avoid damaging their cases.

US Attorneys stay until a new president asks them to leave. They are involved in investigations and it would be irresponsible to just leave without replacements. That is the standard practice.

and at that time he was specifically asked to continue. Only later, after he declined to take Dolt45's phone call, was he fired.

Perhaps I mis-remember his repeated anecdotes. Or perhaps he does not understand expectation/convention.

Some offer resignations, some wait to be fired. The timing is up to the new administration. Although in his case refusing to take a phone call from your boss would lead to a firing in any job.

I would expect all US Attorneys to have submitted their resignation no later than inauguration day. Any that had not resigned, by inauguration day, I would have expected to be fired the next day.

All US Attorneys Appointed by Obama Told to Resign

With no warning or fanfare, the Trump administration on Friday fired 46 federal prosecutors who had served in the Justice Department under President Barack Obama.

“As was the case in prior transitions, many of the United States Attorneys nominated by the previous administration already have left the Department of Justice,” Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said in a statement. “The Attorney General has now asked the remaining 46 presidentially appointed U.S. Attorneys to tender their resignations in order to ensure a uniform transition.”

The U.S. Attorney Barr appointed to "investigate" Hunter Biden and to "Re-Investigate" the Mueller-Russian Probe is staying on, along with a few others. And I read yesterday that these requests for resignations are not necessarily immediate.
