But he may not be expecting to get paid - and a Public Defender does!

... they take on the most desperate, impossible case, and do a solid job.

I have a friend who was taking a law class with an prosecutor. He briefed the class with a lot of information that the jury did not get to hear. The class attended the trial, and he said the public defender almost had him convinced that the defendant was innocent!

I’ve had 3 public defenders in my life and all three were way overworked and apathetic. Most of the time, they don’t even read about your case until minutes before the hearing, and encourage everyone to just plead guilty to get a lesser sentence (and to get your case done asap for them). Friends have had the same experience as I did. I imagine if they have a big case, with a more serious charge than possession, something like manslaughter, they might do a more thorough job?

I’m sure there a good ones out there, somewhere, and they are probably young and idealistic- unlike the beaten down, harried, shells of lawyers I had.

People don't realize that giving up one's right to choose their own attorney is huge. It's expensive to hire a lawyer, but most will work out a payment plan with you. This is just another way that our 'justice system' sticks it to the poor. I had to hire a lawyer a couple of times after that. I have also sat on several juries including a murder trial and a resisting arrest with violence trial. Choosing a good lawyer that has the time to focus on your case will always bring a better outcome.

These buffoons could read War and Peace or Klingon translations of Star Trek dialog or the Warsaw phone book. Republicans don't care. Whether its fear of trump, hatred of Democrats, racism, anti-semitism, Islamophobia, or outright treason, most of them will vote to acquit. If they had a shred of dignity, they would at least not show up to vote.

Anyone have any thoughts on how this travesty of a jury trial will play out in the real world, that is, how it might affect how people on juries make decisions. I mean, if this kind of treacherous behavior is allowed in the Senate, why should it matter in a pissant courtroom? Guilty, your honor. Or Not Guilty, your honor. After all, WTF.

He could be speaking Xhosa and they'd claim it was a solid case for not holding Trump responsible for everything he was responsible for.
