(130,468 posts)Not that he needs lawyers at all, since the GQP senators have already made up their minds - I guess jury nullification happens in Congress, too.

(7,604 posts)The much bigger issue is the likely acquittal of Trump, again. This will be catastrophic for the future of the nation. And you know what?
The entire world is watching democracy crumble.
It's crumbling on LIVE TELEVISION. It's being broadcast all around the globe.
Dictators are rejoicing. Russia is peeing in their collective pants with glee. They finally realized their dream: WE WILL BURY YOU.
Believe me, I hope I'm wrong. But the GOP wants Trump to prevail. It doesn't matter whether they believe that they have no choice. It doesn't matter that they feel terrorized by Trump's worshippers. Their beliefs, their rationalizations, mean nothing. What matters is what they do. And what they are doing is protecting Trump, and preserving his opportunity to lord over them for the rest of his days. They are waiting for him to stage another political campaign, and to sweep over the nation once again. And THEY will be rewarded, or so they think.
Nationwide, the GOP brand will be trashed. More will abandon the party, until only Trumpers are left. It may mean that the GOP's approval rating will drop precipitously, but they don't intend on winning an election to get back into power. They intend to overthrow the government. And that attempt will occur sooner than we all think.

(25,931 posts)The trial will reveal information that many Americans are still not aware of. And people WILL watch this because everyone saw what happened when the Capitol was attacked.
So when the American people see just how bad it was and how Trump and his inner circle were and are connected to the attack, the GQP will look pretty bad for not convicting him. There is the possibility that even more people will turn away from Trump and the GQP as a result. This is the outcome I hope for, whether he is convicted or not.

(2,937 posts)to wish for, but I agree completely. If he simply no longer existed, so much of this mess would topple down. Even Q would be out of work. Everything would be better and brighter. How is it possible that a fat, old, junk food junkie just keeps plugging along while healthy and far better people are leaving the planet?

(17,802 posts)Of course it was a series of dumb arguments. But it was HIS argument.
Now of course, it's someone elses fault.
What did his lawyers think would happen? So much for the theory you have to be smart to be a lawyer.......

(32,108 posts)A missed opportunity. I'm sure there are all kinds of Trump cult lawyers that would have disregarded the House Case and just make another hi-profile Big Lie that he won the election. I sincerely doubt he'd have lost any more Republican votes then he did today.

(18,272 posts)Just about every post about trump is how he is livid at someone, or furious, or screaming at people. The only time I ever saw him smiling was when he was with Jeffrey Epstein.

The problem is, he ca't fire them now because he doesn't have any replacements, & it woulkd probably be worse to not be represented at all. He's likkely pissed of at Lindsay Graham because it was Grahamho found these attys for DT.
Finally DT really doesn't have anyone to help get him out of the hole he dug!

(7,902 posts)by not speechifying his case?
Trying to hide he is incompetent? No, we knew that.
That he wanted to rule the USA as a hereditary dictator monarch? No, we already knew that.
That he loves some dictators and shares pillow talk with one of them? No, we already knew that.
That he incited an insurrection on Jan 6th? No, we already knew that.
So what is he hiding?
Oh yeah, he wants to avoid the consequences of all of the above!
Too late, Sir!

That's OK. Once the GOP shitstains in the Senate acquit him, then the tsunami of indictments and lawsuits can proceed.

(912 posts)He wants others to fight his fights for him. Was there ever a documented case during his admin that he fired someone to their face? Or was it all by underlings or via tweet?
He has no appetite to face his accusers or opponents face to face in front of a camera. And never will. He'll scream, holler & bluster from afar - but like most bullies, in the end is a total coward!! As the titular head of the pubbie party he could do just that to the lower beings of the party, and get away with the bully boy BS. (Only a very few "profiles in courage" in that crowd. Most are still cowering in fear of him.)
The one time I remember of him going face to face with Pelosi (the one filmed for national news consumption). I think he thought he was going to put the woman in her place, but she would have none of it and made him look like the fool he is. Then he believed his own BS and thought he could easily browbeat and trash "sleepy Joe" in the debates. Again he came out looking like a fool. He knows that unless he's in a position of total advantage or control it's not going to end well for him, and will not willingly put himself in a position to be publicly confronted and questioned by a knowledgeable/determined opposition. He knows full well that, in the end, he hasn't any kind of valid defense for his actions. As is so typical of a bully.
