What about seniors? We need them!

They've learned that elections have consequences.

They've been targets for way too many mass shootings, they're struggling financially as a whole, close relations with people who are increasingly openly oppressed (POC, immigrants, LGBTQs) are normal for them, they saw the harm inflicted under Trump and GOP control, they see the GOPs global warming denial and corporations and understand that human existence is at risk.

I think enough of them get the importance of their vote. We just need to stay engaged with, listen to and show results on what's important to them. That part's on us.

She is pleasantly surprised how liberal he really is. I knew he was left of Obama and remembered him from the senate when I was a kid. I’ve refrained from saying I told you so.

Student loan forgiveness is a Schumer-Warren gift to the well-off

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/student-loan-forgiveness-is-a-schumer-warren-gift-to-the-well-off/2021/02/09/75877a64-6b08-11eb-9f80-3d7646ce1bc0_story.html

One drama of Joe Biden’s infant presidency was foreshadowed 13 months ago in Iowa when a rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, answered a question. Her “a program for every problem” repertoire included as much as $50,000 of forgiveness for indebted students or former students from households making less than $100,000, declining to zero for $250,000 households. An Iowan said to her:

“My daughter is getting out of school. I’ve saved all my money [so that] she doesn’t have any student loans. Am I going to get my money back?”

Warren: “Of course not.”

Iowan: “So you’re going to pay for people who didn’t save any money, and those of us who did the right thing get screwed?”

Of course: Activist government usually serves those who know how to activate it — relatively affluent and articulate complainers. Last November, Adam Looney wrote in The Post that, “About 56 percent of student debt is owed by those with masters or professional degrees, and almost 35 percent of loan balances are owed by individuals in the top 20 percent of income distribution.” The five degrees responsible for most debt are: medical and law, bachelor’s and master’s in business, and bachelor of science for nursing. The typical college graduate with debt ($28,500) can retire it in 20 years with $181 monthly payments.

Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) wants Biden to accomplish Warren’s project “with a flick of a pen.” Schumer wants the legislative branch to be irrelevant to one of the largest transfers of wealth — more than $1 trillion — in U.S. history, a sum equal, according to Looney, to “the total amount spent on cash welfare since 1980.” Progressives say the 1965 Higher Education Law, which authorizes the education secretary (there wasn’t one until 1979) to “compromise” federal student loans (there were none until 1958, and few in 1965), empowers an executive branch official to dispose of a gigantic sum. And federal student loan forgiveness might be followed by another pen flick — forgiveness of federal loans to students’ parents: The New York Times reports that under the Parent PLUS program, 10 to 15 percent of parents of undergraduates take out loans “that typically grow to over $64,000 by graduation day.”

Interestingly, the "kids" didn't have an age issue with Bernie? I get it - his progressive politics.

Well, it turns out Biden is quite the progressive as well! And his pick of Kamala for VP - inspired.

What I see, when I look at Joe, is a wise elder. Settled. Self-accepting. Magnanimous. Comfortable in his own skin, as they say. Ego leavened by time and experience. Sure of what really matters in life.

Fair to say - I'm in love!

40. Seditionists consolidated a renewed understanding of how our votes as citizens equal our voice
Wed Feb 10, 2021, 02:52 PM
Feb 2021

Seditionists put the fear of God into anyone and everyone who saw Donald Trump for what he was: a budding autocrat who hadn't quite finished the job of a complete takeover. Another term? There'd have been no stopping the death spiral. Younger voters had the most at risk between student debt, unemployment, climate change, etc., etc. Biden promised to address those issues and more while returning sanity to the WH.

We dodged a bullet by a hair. But the push back on Election Day 2020 was Step 1. The pressure and massive voting from Democrats, Indies and disgusted Republicans of all ages must continue in 2022, 2024 and beyond. Every single MAGA sympathizer must be voted out, purged from the system to protect the future. The only way the current GOP learns, think about what they've done is to deny them power at every level; it's the only language they understand.

Because another round of America First, fascist/mob rule would be fatal to the country.

And then? All bets are off.

BTW, I'm a fan of Ruth Ben-Ghiat's work. She has written that failed coup attempts are frequently followed by second, far more successful assaults. The mobsters won't give up easily. Vigilance is the word of the day.

I would also love to see some hard facts required to be presented to these young people before they and their families sign up for these huge loans. Also, truth from colleges and universities that “the financial aid package you receive freshman year will be significantly more generous then the next three years” Force them to lay out what the 4 years will look like for the student.
