I grew up in the 80s--every villain was Russian. Then, after the Berlin Wall came down, the villains became vaguely Arab and Muslim.

Are we hating on Communists? or Islamists? I can't keep it straight.

The Communism scares of Joe McCarthy's era are a joke today. Communism as a ideology doesn't scare me. Neither does Socialism. It's a boogie men for Baby Boomers and the remnants of the Greatest generation.

It's al about otherizing--anyone not White, Christian, male, or supportive of racist, misogynistic patriarchy is a Communist/Socialist/Muslim/Librul/BLM/OTHER/Other/other...

Their "us" is increasingly a smaller and smaller but louder and louder slice of Americans who are finally facing consequences of their own choices.
