(46,914 posts)I think they want to keep the focus on Trump, not dilute it with other family members.

(40,206 posts)The video people have seen was filmed before the rally. Trump and his family were in The White House during the insurrection. The impeachment managers did discuss how it was reported that Trump was "delighted"" while watching the insurrection.

(2,643 posts)Not to question your motives, OP. Disinformation tends to mix into real info. Getting a better signal to noise ratio is the goal.
One of our common goals here is to police ourselves when we can, usually in a gentle and courteous manner. Not always, but, you know. Internets.

I saw that story posted so many times about that video, while being stated as occurring during the insurrection - even after it was pointed out many times that it was before and was being misconstrued. It, and other stuff like this - for example - the hubbub over Shoen touching the top of his head - once was revealed it was due to his religious practice, still many comments poking fun...
Stuff like this is hard to avoid since there are so many new threads all the time, but I was considering the site rules and reasons a post or comment could be alerted, but kinda shocked there is not one for 'false information'. I thought, surely I ought to ping Earl/Elad and ask why not set up an alert for that, but then i realized we would be opening a can of worms, which you, dear reader, will also realize if you think it over for awhile.
Maybe an idea would be to have a fact check icon or something we could click and until someone posts something on the same thread that serves as a verifiable fact check, at least the casual reader will see the icon and know that someone hear has called it into question.
Maybe this is a bad idea too, but what does anyone else think about that.
(I will close by saying, I love DU for many reasons, but one is that it seems to get news items well before MSM, but I alway read with a 'don't believe it until I see it in more mainstream sources'. Would love any way that would help remove some of that reluctance in believing what I read here.)

(2,643 posts)It is quite a challenge to keep a minimal bit of imposed order in a big forum. Site rules are generally the base upon which to build a system. Years ago we had moderators, then moved to the jury system in use now.
Marking for objective untruths and rumors are, I agree, an important thing to address specifically.
If you would like to raise this in the "ask the Admins" forum, it would be a good step toward a wider discussion, and is read by our, well, admins. You are right about it being a can of worms, but sometimes that may catch some whoppers. (umm, lying fish in this metaphor?)
A user alert system with a fact check group, like our MIRT system, could be a useful feature, incorporated with a user alert system, perhaps. It's a good start on possible solutions.
Thank you for the thoughtful post!
