His outrage was just obfuscation while at the same time making sure he goes down as pro Trump so Trump won’t sic his wolves on him.

the managers told the story of first trump, then giuliani, tried to call tuberville but got Lee's phone instead.

according to this CNN story, a spokesperson for Lee confirmed the story. story dated 2 days after the insurrection.
