Mike Lee's spokesperson confirmed the story that the senator called a lie during impeachment outburst

When Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) rose to protest the comments on the floor of the Senate during the impeachment trial, it caused a stir in the chamber. He shouted that what was said about the phone call with then-President Donald Trump was a lie. It never happened and he wasn't involved in it, he claimed.
But on Jan. 8, Lee's spokesperson confirmed to CNN that it's exactly the way Democrats described it.
"Lee's spokesman said the calls from Trump and his attorney were intended for Sen. Tommy Tuberville, a newly elected Republican from Alabama," said CNN. "The effort by the White House to get Tuberville to delay certification of the votes provides insight into the President's thinking and priorities as a mob of his supporters lay siege to the iconic building. As the President worked to convince Tuberville to delay the process, he and other top White House officials did little to check in on Vice President Mike Pence while he and members of his family were inside the breached Capitol, a source close to the vice president told CNN."
Lee was taken down by retired Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling for his complaints.

(471 posts)another one seems to yell 'hold my beer'....
I will admit, Lee's 'clutch my pearls' display was attention-getting; but maybe that was the entire purpose of the display...
I guess there will be no repercussions to his breach of the rules: since apparently ya can even go mask less on the floor....

(3,245 posts)and the CNN take on it.
From what i was able to gather, Lee's objection wasn't that the calls were made to his phone and that he gave the phone to Tubeervile, it was what was reported in the article the managers used indicated that it was Lee who provided the quote that the President and Guiliani wanted Tuberville try and delay the count.
And as all the panelists on CNN said afterward, ok if that's what you want, no big deal. We have the recording of Rudy's call anyway.

(11,558 posts)The villain managed to drug her rival, then bury her alive, but with life support in her coffin. This went on for months, while said villain tormented her victim....until another character had a prophetic dream and the victim was found and dug up.
Some of these Senate plot lines are just as ridiculous.
PS...the villain was Susan Lucci and she was sentenced to 6 months for this unbelievable crime. Story checks out.

(35,926 posts)The whole trumpcult loves to create drama, from torch marches to truck flaggery and parades to rally fights and chants.
Dumb stuff. The banality of evil that leads to dramatically violent words and deeds.
But Senate plot lines that are just as ridiculous cross over the line to dangerous. The climate of menace that's floated through many areas of the country -- MI, OR, TX, FL, NM and other states -- has now moved into the US Capitol Building.
Menace is what our side feels from congressional trumpculters, the armed and unarmed alike.
No one should have to be in such a hostile work environment.
Know what ? I think I just argued myself out of the previous comment I made that you responded to!
