General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSome Republican Senators are looking at their constituencies
with regard to the vote to convict or not convict. Some have already decided that a vote to convict Trump will not hurt their reelection chances. Others are frantically counting their votes in their own states, trying to see what their constituents are thinking. That's their primary concern, really. Can I get reelected? Nothing else really matters to them.
That's why it's important to communicate with your Senators right now if they are Republicans. Mine are both Democrats, and I know their intentions. Nevertheless, I have emailed both of them. It is your Republican Senators who will decide whether to convict or not. They're tallying emails, phone calls, and other communications right now.
Tell them what you want them to do. Trust me - They're listening right now. Some of them, anyhow.

(146,282 posts)Senators. In some cases, that is true. Marco Rubio, for example, would never vote to convict. However, he is just one Senator. Other Republican Senators are not in his position. Some need to be concerned about the next election. Each of those is a candidate for communications from their home state. Only people who vote in their state matter to them, though, so bombarding them will emails from other states will have no impact.
It takes just a few minutes to send an email to your own Senators. I can't imagine not doing so at this time.

(140 posts)Patrick Toomey has announced that he is not running for re-election. (Hopefully John Fetterman will take his place.)
I think he is siding with the sane caucus of his Party, and he will vote to convict for the sole reason of obtaining a lucrative position in a mainline Republican organization upon retirement. I've always thought his fealty was to money.

(7,263 posts)I have written everyday this week. I think he will vote his conscience.
For good measure I emailed Sen Bob Casey too. Never hurts to show that you support your Democratic Senators - the praise emails go a long way to negate the hate mail they get from the insurrectionists.
