(26,168 posts)The Capitol has always been open to the public to a degree. I would hate to see that change.
ata - The optics are not good for us either. We lost a lot of world standing that day, even more than trump had already managed to lose for us.

(43,850 posts)Our enemies informed, our allies alarmed. The cultists believe were able to go it alone somehow. Theyll find out differently of course but the GQP is going to use it as long as they can.

(26,168 posts)It acknowledges a plan to be cancelled rather than an unforeseen event to be stopped. I could be reading more into than was intended, but it struck me odd that this particular phrase is used.

House Impeachment Manager Rep. Castro makes the argument that if Trump didnt incite the riot, then why were so many in Congress publicly and privately pleading with the former president to "call it off"

(5,340 posts)Eta - explaining that impeachment is not a criminal or civil proceeding. No prison or fines will come of convicting of such in the Senate.
And if this doesnt rise to the level of impeachment, what does?

(8,103 posts)all the points that I wanted them to hit, including a picture of Ofc. Hodges getting crunched in the door.
I sure would like to know who wrote all these amazing speeches. Surely they didn't write them all themselves?
I think this trial is over by EOD tomorrow.
Lars39
(26,507 posts)So they probably did write them.

(25,152 posts)they are going to be comparing trumps crowds with the BLM protests. Has anyone mentioned BLM protests?
Lars39
(26,507 posts)crickets
(26,168 posts)but the Repubs have been threatening to use BLM protests in a both siderist argument. Tackling the subject before they have a chance to bring it up may take the wind out of their sails on that.

(26,168 posts)They did not address this after all, so I assume they will deal with it in their final remarks after Repubs have presented their arguments. It's just as well they didn't borrow trouble beforehand by discussing it. There's no guarantee what the Repubs are going to say given they have so little to work with.

(42,770 posts)Pic that everyone has been circulating was taken AFTER rally. No idea if that's true but interesting.
Something is very fishy about the NG deployment. Cap police head Sund said he asked for guard 6 times. ArmySec/ pentagon says no one asked.

(26,168 posts)I'm thinking perhaps there is a very involved investigation going on right now, and they didn't want to step on that.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)What's interesting is that the National Guard is not a rapid response group. Like guard members are literally at home or at work. In other words, not good for "get your ass down here asap, we've got trouble."
But they could have been called in before.. prearranged. DC mayor did that... But just for traffic. She has no jurisdiction over Capitol.
Mersky
(5,340 posts)Yes, that has been made abundantly clear.

(5,340 posts)That when you catch people engaged in a fraud, you can play by different rules.
Then cut to the video of giuliani at the Jan. 6 rally calling for trial by combat, for which tRump immediately praises him for his bravery.

(5,340 posts)based on the question of Constitutionality, to let that go not only because it is without merit, but because it is besides the point as they are tasked with hearing out the prosecution in a trial in which they are sworn to participate.
