One of the Most Anti-LGBTQ+ Members of Trump's White House Won't Leave

President Joe Biden has run into a bit of a roadblock in his attempt to clean house: One of Donald Trump’s most virulently anti-LGBTQ+ appointees refuses to leave.

Roger Severino, who previously served under Trump at the head of the Department of Health and Human Services, is suing the Biden administration over attempts to replace him with a new appointee, as Newsweek reports. Just before Trump left office, Severino was shuffled from HHS to a group known as the Administrative Conference of the United States, and he now claims that Biden does not have the authority to remove him.

“The law governing my appointment says it was for three years and was duly signed by the president when I took the oath of office,” he said in an interview with The National Catholic Register. “I am well qualified for the position.”

“It seems petty and vindictive to try to remove qualified people who care about good governance,” he said, neglecting to mention that Trump abruptly fired all remaining members of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS in 2018.
