Is the movement to recall Newsom (Ca governor) a MAGA thing?

There is an "event" in front of a local grocery store this Saturday and I'm just wondering what I'm in for since that is the only day I have to go to said store...

(It's the cheapest one in town so going somewhere else is not as good when on a budget)

There's a thread in our local FB group and it is pretty interesting to see the comments...

Far-right movements including QAnon, virus skeptics linked to Newsom recall

SACRAMENTO — As the pandemic continues to shutter businesses, close schools and upend lives in California, Gov. Gavin Newsom has become a target of angry frustration for some, driving a grassroots effort to recall him from office. What once started as a pipe dream is beginning to look like a political threat for the Democratic governor.

But a Times investigation found that recall campaign leaders, seeking to capitalize on the darkening public mood, allied with radical and extreme elements early on to help collect signatures. Those included groups promoting distrust of government, science and medicine; peddlers of QAnon doomsday conspiracies; “patriots” readying for battle and one organization allied with the far-right extremist group, the Proud Boys.

The recall gave those fringe factions a higher profile and a shared villain. They helped energize the campaign with large and often inflammatory rallies over masks, in support of Trump and against the election they falsely say was stolen from the former president — ripe venues to harvest petition signatures.

Many supporters of the recall are not extremists and may not be aware of the far-right groups involved with the effort. But with the violent insurgency at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, organizers are grappling with the consequences of their alliances. They now insist the extremists don’t represent the values of the recall movement but continue to associate with them, amid a national debate about how far is too far when it comes to winning in politics.

I was wondering about it too since discovering that efforts to primary Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema as "not progressive enough" were actually the brainchildren of Trump-related organizations.

I knew it.

The damn grocery store owners are probably of the same stripe too since they are allowing it to happen and promoting it in some way...

I hate giving them my business but it is literally the discount grocery store in town and I dont have extra $ for groceries. dammitt, and Saturday is the only day I can go and Im gonna have those creepos in the front of the store yelling at people and trying to get their petition signed... (and no masks I bet too)

guh

I usually stop and sign most petitions because they are LEGIT

this bullshit is just bullshit

The thing that burns me most is they only need 1.5 million signature to have a recall. California has 40 million. Why not require 25 million signatures? The signature number is too low.

I was in California when they pulled this craps the last time, and we ended up with Arnold "effing" Schwarzenegger!

Lot's of people can be convinced that all that is wrong with Covid is the Governors fault. We have short attention spans in this country...hell, they'll be blaming Biden soon, just like they blamed President Obama.

California is the Golden Ring for these Retrumplican fucksticks.

And...

let's not forget that Diane Feinstein is going on 100.

Someone better start playing offense...soon
