60% of Republican Senators do not have to run for re-election for 4-6 years.

They must have long-range fear of Donald Trump?

One might understand if a Senator was running for re-election in 2022 why he might fear a primary challenge. But, it is difficult to understand how someone who doesn't run again until 2026 would not feel more free to vote his/her conscience?

However, fear seems to be the primary motivating factor of Republicans nowadays?

There is nothing logical or rational in their thinking or in their voting.

They’re more than fine being led by a sociopathic mob boss.

Really, they just wish his coup had succeeded. THAT'S why they won't convict him. Because they support his actions and his goals.

34 have elections in 2022, and that number could go up if there are any vacancies in the other 66 seats this year that would trigger a special election in 2022 for the remainder of the term.
