Covid and one impact: my home inspection

I finally bit the bullet and replaced my 15+ year old water heater. The company man came for the county inspection, but the inspector was in a meeting and couldn't be reached. Two hours later, take 2. The inspector viewed the work through the company's smartphone and approved it. The company man said that since Covid started, inspections have gone virtual. I asked about payment for the inspection? The guy said to talk to the accounting department. He added that every HQ function of the company in this state is now centralized, and there are fewer people in the accounting department, and only half the number of people doing what he does now.
((Implication: business is probably off by at least half, probably because of the "anti-wealth" effect of Covid-19.))

Co-workers is this:

The work is being done but by fewer people. Businesses business will pick up but the management class will realize that more work can be done by fewer people with less use of business resources.

Dump more work on fewer employees and keep wages and benefits the same. More $$$ for the "management class". And they think employees don't see this injustice or if they are aware of it the response is "tough shit, get another job".

Is that the total work force has increased by some factor - because with more people doing the work from home, you are competing with a larger work force. And as we will probably see in the future, a larger work force willing to work for less wages.
