It's all CYA, exceptions, lowering expectations, and negativity (oh, but maybe vaccinated people can still transmit; maybe it doesn't work on the variants; there are cases where people still get sick; watch out for allergic reactions; on and ON, CYA this and that).
They need to cut the bullshit and tell people to go get vaccinated (unless their doctor says otherwise) and that, when they do it, their quality of life is going to improve DRAMATICALLY. There should be goddamned dancing in the streets over the vaccine, not hemming and hawing and 30%-40% of people declining when their turn comes. Vaccinated people should be excepted from most restrictions, as still forcing them to follow them is not worth the added inconvenience to our larger society and economy (maybe still expected to wear masks, but able to do anything, including going out to eat). That would help motivate people also.
I understand the desire to be as precise and accurate as possible informing people for their decision-making, but watering down the messaging this much will have very serious negative consequences to our public health.
Whether one gets vaccinated or not, in the end, is a simple, binary question. The statistical decision needs to be made by the experts and a clear conclusion given: YES, you should get vaccinated, unless your doctor says otherwise. Cut out the rest.

Even if they give a small tax break to everyone who gets it, think how many lives (much less dollars) could be saved.

(17,000 posts)Effective public education campaigns take time which because of that we have. As more people get the vaccine without negative outcomes more people will be willing to do the same. As far as the anti-vaxers go, I dont see anything anyone can do to get them to see reason.

(18,402 posts)We listen to scientists now. All vaccines have the same drawbacks: the flu vaccine doesnt protect against all variants of flu, and some people will have allergic reactions to any vaccine.
None of this deterred me!
(Note: it was hella better than the Shingrix vaccine, which made me pretty sick for a few days. No problems at all with COVID vaccine, well the first one at least. )

(17,526 posts)We just have to work with who we can. Right now, it isn't the people who don't want to get it that is the problem, it is the people who desperately want to get it but can't.
