(101,474 posts)I think he'll never be free of litigation. After all of this he has committed crimes against humanity... he's not going to get anywhere politically.

(28,836 posts)His approval ratings continue to drop, including among Republicans, and his influence continues to wane. He'll still have influence, but not to the extent that I think a lot of people believe.
He's also going to be spending a lot of time preparing to defend himself from lawsuits and, hopefully, criminal charges.
Straw Man
(6,941 posts)... I believe that you're right overall, and the "time" will be extremely short. His base is shrinking as his behavior becomes increasingly toxic, and corporate America will ultimately starve him out of mainstream politics. Once out of office and the public eye, he can only bleed the rubes so long before their attention spans fizzle out, and they have to look elsewhere for their fix of hate-adrenaline.

(28,836 posts)I saw a report that online misinformation about the election dropped 75% right after he was banned.
That's remarkable. Basically, he was driving almost the entire argument single-handedly -- three-quarters of the total.
Without that platform, he's not going to have the same control or influence.

(24,945 posts)Trump is going to fade into irrelevance just as did Sarah Palin. Their bullshit doesn't resonate with enough Americans to sustain their political ambitions.
Meanwhile, Trump will be consumed with legal and financial troubles that could leave him in deep trouble.
Couldn't happen to a more appropriate fellow.

(19,081 posts)That's their choice. Acquit or risk being murdered.
Unless 17 of them vote to acquit as a group, then Trump will be neutered and his threat will be eliminated.

Because that's never the answer.

He will bluster and influence the party for awhile, but he will fade away. Not entirely, since his greatest (and perhaps only) skill is self-promotion; but he will fade back into his miserable past as the nation tries to forget him.
He will lose the support of ass-kissing politicians, since he will no longer have coattails worth hanging on to and will lose much of the money that Mercers, Adelsons, and others have been throwing at him.

(115,328 posts)...until Merrick Garland is confirmed. No doubt, he will be grilled about future plans of investigating or prosecuting Trump by Lady G and others.
Then, there may be two or three criminal investigations opened, in Georgia and DC, for example.
They could keep him busy for a while.
